Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

While their doctor refers many clients to physio, it is not necessary. The Therapists at Moreton All Body Care are all qualified and AHPRA registered and able to treat patients without medical referral.

If you are able to claim a rebate for physiotherapy services from a private health fund, this is possible without a medical referral.A medical referral from your general practitioner is necessary only if:

  • You have been injured at work and your case is being managed by workcover
  • Your treatment is covered by Veterans Affairs
  • You are claiming your treatment expenses through a 3rd party claim.
  • You are on a Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan.

Your physiotherapist is also able to refer you on to other medical and allied health professionals where appropriate.

Can I claim a rebate for my treatment?
If you have private health cover and subscribe to “extras” cover you should be eligible to claim part of your treatment fee.
All health funds have differing levels of cover, and different rebate amounts for each level, so we advise that you check with your fund if you would like to know your rebate amount prior to receiving treatment.
If you are covered, most health funds are online with HICAPS.
This is a service we provide for your convenience. It allows you to claim your health fund rebate at our clinic, leaving only the gap to pay. You will need to bring your health fund card with you.
Can I Access Physiotherapy Services through Medicare?

Medicare now offers Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Programs to allow a Medicare rebate for up to 5 allied health treatments a year.

The program is for people with chronic conditions and patients must be referred by their GP. If you have any queries regarding this service please don’t hesitate to speak with us.

All patients who attend our clinics on EPC’s for physiotherapy will be charged only the medicare schedule amount so there is no out of pocket expense.

Payment is required at the time of treatment and we are able to immediately refund this amount to you from Medicare, via either a savings or cheque account, through our EFTPOS terminal.

Should you chose not to do this you can take your receipt to Medicare to obtain a full refund at a later date.

Please remember to bring your Medicare card and your EFTPOS card to any appointments.

What happens at my first treatment?

Following an initial comprehensive assessment, a full objective examination and hands on assessment with functional testing is performed to establish a diagnosis.

You are welcome to ask any questions you may have.Treatment may involve different ways of relieving pain, restoring function, flexibility and strength.

Skills and techniques used may include mobilisations of joints and or soft tissues, manipulation, postural correction, dry needling/acupuncture, electrotherapy, exercises and muscle rehabilitation.

You will also learn techniques to use at home to manage your problem, which may include exercise and preventative measures.

At Moreton All Body Care we also liaise with others involved in your care if applicable and will refer you for alternative treatment if Physiotherapy is not the best option.

How long do treatments take?
An initial consultation for one problem will take approximately 30 minutes. If you have multiple areas or a complex problem it is best to allow 60 minutes (please let our reception staff know this at the time of booking).
A follow on consultation will take approximately 30 minutes. Whatever is required to make a difference to your problem will be done during the treatment.
As a new client we would appreciate if you could arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time to fill out relevant paperwork.
Our physios strive to keep to their appointment schedule, but there are occasional unforeseen circumstances.
Can I claim for my massage?

If you have extra’s cover with your health fund, and you are covered for massage therapy, you will be able to claim your massage through HICAPS at the time of your appointment.

As all health funds have differing rebate amounts so it is best to check with your fund if you would like to know your rebate prior to treatment.

Please note that Massage Therapy is only available at our Narangba clinic at this point in time.
What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a university qualified allied health professional, who specialises in the delivery of exercise and lifestyle programs for healthy individuals and those with a broad range of chronic conditions.
To become an accredited EP you must satisfy the stringent criteria set down by Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), including a four year university degree as well as a minimum 500hrs clinical experience.
What services can an AEP provide to your patients?

AEPs assess, prescribe, supervise and monitor exercise and lifestyle programs designed to meet an individual’s specific health outcomes for individuals with a wide range of chronic diseases and musculoskeletal conditions.

Working in collaboration with a general practitioner, and with other allied health practitioners, AEPs will develop an exercise program based on your patient’s current medical status and musculoskeletal condition, to ensure that the exercise program is both safe and effective to achieve the required health goals.

This may include a supervised one-on-one or group exercise program.

In addition, AEPs will work to ensure your patient has the necessary knowledge and skills to exercise safely and effectively, and to motivate and support them while they start out with an exercise program.

Referring

Referring a patient/client for Exercise Physiology Services can be done a number of ways. A general practitioner has the ability to refer patients for Exercise Physiology services by:

  • D904 referral for ex-service men and women who hold a gold or white card (Specific treating condition must be mentioned for white card holders)
  • Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM previously known as Enhanced Primary Care – EPC). A referral for individual allied health services under Medicare is required for patients with a chronic medical condition, for treatment through exercise prescription and lifestyle modification under CDM.
  • A referral with a current workers compensation certificate signed by a medical practitioner to cover exercise physiology services.
What is clinical pilates?
Clinical Pilates is a form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing.
The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century in Germany.
These days, Clinical Pilates is often used in conjunction with physiotherapy as a means of treating a variety of injuries, particularly those of the neck and back.
This is based on literature that demonstrates strong evidence to support the use of therapeutic exercise in the management of patients with injuries, particularly low back pain.
Recent research advocates the retraining of the deep stabilizing muscles for patients with low back pain.
Clinical Pilates focuses on the retraining and recruitment of these stabilizing muscles (core stability) as well as improving posture, strength and flexibility.
What are the benefits of clinical pilates?

There are numerous benefits to be gained from performing Clinical Pilates exercises. Some of these include:

  • Improved posture and core stability
  • Increased muscular strength and flexibility
  • Prevention of injuries
  • Aiding rehabilitation
  • Restoration of normal movement patterns
  • Enhanced breathing control
  • Increased co-ordination and muscular control
  • Firmer and flatter stomach muscles
  • Improved overall body tone and fitness
  • Improved balance
What is a reformer class?
The Pilates reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment which looks like a bed with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys.
The origins of the Pilates reformer date back to the original Pilates studio in New York in the 1920’s and was designed by Joseph Pilates himself.
Reformer Pilates is done using the Pilates reformer machine and is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises via the use of the springs which form part of the machine.
The springs that provide much of the resistance from the reformer are generally quite strong.
Most reformers have up to 5 springs and when combined can add up to a considerable resistance.
Conversely, as there are five springs, using only one or two of them can provide a gentler resistance depending on the exercise and the muscle being worked.
This means that the intensity can be varied considerably from one person to the next, making it an incredibly versatile piece of equipment to use as a workout or rehab tool.
What is a mat work class?
Mat work Pilates classes are conducted on the mat, utilising your own body weight and small apparatus for resistance.
The beauty of Mat work classes is the enormous freedom of being able to enjoy continuous fluid movement with uninterrupted flow but always at your level of ability.
