A brilliant past. An even brighter future
In 1953, SW Hart and Co., a pioneering plumbing company based in , decided that the sun was the best energy source to heat water in Western Australian homes. As a result, solar hot water in Australia was born and Solahart geared up for expansion. Since then we’ve built a reputation as a world leader in solar innovation and technology and invested millions of dollars into R&D and manufacturing. We’ve also installed over one million systems in over 70 countries around the world. We’re at Everest Base Camp and Antarctica. Even Nelson Mandela’s South African home had a Solahart system installed on the roof. Today, after more than 60 years as Australia’s free energy experts, we’re set to turn our brilliant past into an even brighter future.

It’s not just solar, it’s Solahart
Investing in solar is a big decision. But not all solar companies are the same. Solahart has installed more than one million solar systems around the world and is backed by over 60 years as Australia’s free energy experts. We always start with a free on-site solar assessment, rigorously test our systems for the harshest Australian conditions, and guarantee the performance of every system we sell. And unlike many other solar companies, we offer solar hot water, solar power and battery storage. When it comes to quality, efficiency and long-term reliability, remember, it’s not just solar, it’s Solahart.

In order to ensure the best service and advice, Solahart solar water heaters and solar power systems are only available through your local Solahart Expert. And with coverage Australia wide there’s one not far from you. Find your nearest expert here.

All our experts are trained and qualified to assess your home or business and your energy use. Our FREE solar consultation ensures you get the absolute best solar solution for your situation. Book your free in home solar quote here.

Not only are our solar power system installers accredited by the Clean Energy Council, they also are trained by Solahart to ensure that each installation is performed in accordance with our stringent installation standards and that only the components specified by Solahart are used to ensure the performance and safety of your Solahart solar power system.

As Australia’s solar pioneer we offer a range of high performance solar systems to help households and businesses reduce their energy consumption.

Long before anyone had even heard of global warming and climate change, a pioneering plumbing supply company based in decided that the sun was the best source available to heat water in Western Australian homes.

SW Hart & Co. had been in the plumbing business since 1901 but it was in 1953 that they pioneered solar hot water systems in Australia and Solahart was born.

Today Solahart has manufactured over one million solar hot water systems installed in 80 countries on every continent around the world.

As Australia’s solar pioneer we also offer a range of high performance solar power systems to help households and businesses reduce their energy bills and their impact on the environment.

Solahart’s High Performance Solar Power Systems
Solahart was one of the first companies in the world to recognise the value of the sun’s free energy.

We pioneered solar water heating in Australia in 1953. Since then we have installed over 1 million systems in over 70 countries and have become a world leader in the field of solar energy.

Today our solar power PV systems are among the most efficient in the world, offering big energy savings to homeowners who switch to solar panels and energy free from the sun.

Our extensive network of Solahart Experts are qualified to assess your home and provide you with the best systems to meet your family’s needs. Our installers are trained to the highest standards to ensure the safety and effectiveness of your system.

All this is backed by our comprehensive warranties and the peace of mind you’ll get from dealing with Australia’s solar pioneer.

How Solar Power Systems Work
Solar PV systems generate electricity from sunlight. The solar panels are made up of many photovoltaic (PV) cells which collect the light from the sun and convert this into DC current. This is fed through an inverter and converted to 240V AC to power your home. The amount of electricity you can produce depends on the number of panels and their efficiency, the size of the inverter, the orientation of your roof and the amount of sunlight in your location.

Your home remains connected to the power grid so that when you generate more electricity than you need, you can feed it back into the grid. Alternatively, you can purchase more electricity from the grid when the sun’s not shining or when your system is not producing enough to meet your requirements.

Did You Know?
Water heating is a significant user of energy in Australian households; approximately 25 per cent of household energy use in Australia+. In fact, water heating is the second largest segment of household energy use, after space heating and cooling.

Installing a Solar Power (PV) system can reduce the amount of energy you buy from the grid to provide hot water. But, did you know that a Solar Water Heater uses up to 50%-90%* less energy than a conventional electric water heater? A lot of Solahart customers have found that installing a Solar Water Heater allows them to substantially reduce their energy consumption before they install Solar Power.  In most cases this means they can install a smaller Solar Power system because their household energy use is lower with a Solar Water Heater than without one.

The great thing about Solar Water Heaters is that they store energy free from the sun in a storage tank for later use, which is in effect, just like a battery. And because they are so efficient, Solar Water Heater collector panels take up about 1/3** of the roof space needed for an equivalent sized PV system.

With Australia’s abundant sunshine it makes great sense to get your hot water FREE from the sun. With a Solahart solar water heater you can enjoy big savings on your energy use and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. Solahart’s solar hot water systems use a range of technologies to provide efficient and cost effective solar water heating solutions for all Australian climates.
Thermosiphon Roof Mounted Solar Hot Water
Solahart’s roof mounted tank systems save space at ground level and their elegant simplicity make them efficient and reliable. All Solahart solar hot water systems, where the tank is roof-mounted, use the Thermosiphon principle to collect heat from the sun and transfer it to your hot water. The Thermosiphon principle is based on two naturally occurring phenomena:

Dark objects absorb heat
Hot water rises
Solahart solar collectors are coated with a heat-absorbent surface. This coating absorbs the energy from the suns rays and heats the fluid in the collectors. As the fluid heats, it rises to the top of the collectors and into the tank where it displaces cooler fluid which flows in to the bottom of the collectors where the process is repeated.

In this way Solahart solar water heaters constantly soak up the sun’s energy to maximise your energy savings. With a Solahart thermosiphon solar hot water heating system you can choose from a range of boosters including in-tank electric or in-line gas boosters to ensure you always have hot water on tap even on cloudy days.

Split System Solar Hot Water
Solahart’s split system solar water heaters are designed to give you the maximum flexibility of installation locations. The low profile and unobtrusive Solahart solar collectors are mounted on a roof facing the equator, whilst the storage tank is mounted at ground level out of sight. The electric boosted model can even be installed inside your home. This minimises the visual impact of going solar, while maximising the potential savings from the sun.

With a Solahart solar hot water split system you can choose from a range of boosters including in-tank electric or in-line gas continuous flow boosting to ensure you always have hot water on tap even on cloudy days. To find out which Solahart solar water heater is best for you check out our system selector or contact your nearest Solahart Expert for your FREE solar home assessment.

Solahart Heat Pump Water Heaters
The Solahart heat pump is a smart, energy efficient alternative for areas where a traditional solar water heater may not be suitable, such as an application with a shaded north facing roof. Rather than using roof mounted collectors, efficient heat pump technology extracts energy from the surrounding air. Ambient warmth is used to convert the refrigerant within the sealed system into a gas. The gas is then compressed to generate even more heat which then heats the water in the tank. What’s more this process can work day or night, in sunshine and rain, all year round.

Installation is quick and easy. The heat pump water heater can usually be installed in the same location as an outdoor electric water heater and connected up to the existing plumbing and electrical connections, making it a great replacement for an existing water heater. It is also equipped with an electric booster designed to operate only in very cold conditions to ensure a quick and efficient supply of hot water when you may need it most. The ceramic lined tank is further protected by its sacrificial anode.
