Plumbing Leaks Any leak at your property, even a small one can create a lot of problems. Leaks under foundations or slab can cause expensive damage to the structure of a building. Leaks in walls inside a building can damage paint, plaster, carpets, timber flooring or furniture. In the long run even the smallest leak can create long lasting dampness problems. With the increasing cost of water you can also have a nasty surprise next time you receive a bill. This is the reason that all leaks should be located and repaired very promptly. The most important factor in the process of finding a leak is that it does not cause more damage than the leak itself.
This is where Spot-On Leak Detection can help you save a lot of money. With our more than 20 years of experience we can locate leaks in the most efficient way possible using the most advanced non-invasive and non- destructive methods. The process of leak location will not cause any damage to your property.
Presence of some leaks are quite obvious: water on the floor, wet carpet and loud noise from running water when everything is off. High water bills do not necessarily indicate a presence of a plumbing leak but definitely should be investigated further.
Do I Have a Leak? The quickest way to determine if you have a plumbing leak is to do a Water Meter Test:
Make sure that toilets in your house are not leaking. If not sure turn water to the toilets off. Make sure all the taps, reticulation, washing machine and dishwasher are off. Locate the water meter which usually is at the front of your property. Check if the meter numbers are changing, if they do, it indicates that you have a leak. The faster the numbers are changing the bigger is the leak. If you cannot see immediate movement of the meter numbers, take a meter reading, wait 10 minutes and take another reading. If the meter numbers do not move, most likely you do not have a leak. If there is a difference between these two readings, calculate the difference and divide by 10. This will give you a leak rate in liters per minute. This information will assist us in estimating the cost of leak detection.
If the Water Meter Test confirms that you do not have a plumbing leak but there are other signs of a leak like water damage, noise in pipes or dampness, then call Spot-On Leak Detection for advice.
If you have any problem to do the test or not sure about the results, call Spot-On Leak Detection we will be happy to assist.
We can offer you up-front pricing for finding a leak so you will not have any unpleasant financial surprises after the job is finished.
Pool and Spa Leaks The reasons behind repairing swimming pool or spa leaks with rapid loss of water are quite obvious, however even small leaks if not treated promptly can cause expensive damage to your pool structure or pool equipment. The most common and obvious sign of pool leak is the need to top the pool up very frequently or when automatic pool filler is running constantly. However there are other signs of the pool leak which sometimes can slip your attention, but can be damaging to your pool and your pocket:
The pool chemicals need to be replaced more than usual. There is a need to add water more often than usual. The pool pump loses prime or there is air in the system (a lot of air bubbles escaping from the pool return). This indicates air leak in the suction line of the pool and should be fixed to avoid damage to the pool pump. The air leaks do not necessarily result in any water loss. Is then my pool leaking?
The simplest way to determine if there is a leak is to do the Bucket Test:
The best time to start the test is late evening or early morning when water in the pool is completely still.
If the automatic filler is installed, make sure it is off before commencing the test and that nobody is swimming in the pool during the test. Let the pump run its normal cycle.
Fill your swimming pool to normal operating level. Fill a bucket with pool water to about few centimeters from the top. Put a brick or other weight to make it stable. Put the bucket on one of steps of your pool in such a way that at least ¾ of the bucket will be submerged. Mark the water level on the inside of the bucket and the pool level on the outside of the bucket with a marker or pencil. After 24h mark the levels again. If there is a significant difference in drop of the pool and bucket levels, most likely there is a leak. Water level changes in the bucket represent approximation of natural evaporation of the pool or combination of rain and evaporation for rainy periods. The Bucket test can be used once the leak is located and repaired to confirm that there are no more leaks in the pool. Conducting the test over longer periods of time than 24h is not recommended as results can become unreliable due to measurement error accumulation. If not sure of the test result it is better to do it again.
If you have any problem conducting the test or not sure about the results, call Spot-On Leak Detection we will be happy to assist.

We strongly recommend not to let water go down to see where the pool level stabilizes. This will not necessarily tell you where the leak is but can cause in some cases structural damage to your pool.
