From a very young age Michael has been involved in the fitness and health industry. His passion stemmed from the many years of professional swimming and competing where he was consistently visiting physiotherapists due to injuries. Being the patient for so long, Michael understands what it is like to be on the treatment table.
After many years of elite training, Michael decided to hang up his goggles and dedicate himself to helping others; the way that many had helped him. His journey began with a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at the Australian Catholic University and he then completed a Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney.
Michael is the owner of a personal training studio in Strathfield, where he helps people of the community to achieve their goals in health and fitness. He enjoys working with a variety of different clients with different strengths and levels of fitness and finds it most rewarding watching his clients achieve their goals. With the same moto he applied to his career as an athlete and a physiotherapist, he believes that the key to success is hard work, perseverance and loving what you do. He finds this very rewarding, and also in his spare time works as a physiotherapist for some sporting teams; including football, netball and gymnastics.
Michael has a keen interest in using evidence-based research to develop new techniques and ideas to treat patients. He uses a combination of specific techniques to target conditions, such as nerve gliding, joint mobilisations, taping for correct movement, ultrasound therapy for acute and chronic conditions and specific strength training. Michael has a specific interest in treating sporting injuries, acute and chronic peripheral nerve injury, osteoarthritis, headaches and many more.
⚫ Sporting injuries – Ligament sprains and muscle tears
⚫ Chronic pain – Neck/ lower back pain
⚫ Musculoskeletal issues – Tendinopathy, bursitis, muscle imbalances
⚫ Tension headaches / Vertigo
⚫ Osteoarthritis
⚫ Postural issues – Forward shoulder or neck posture
⚫ Advice on training, sportswear and sporting technique
The techniques are applied in conjunction to achieve optimal results. Some of these techniques include:
⚫ Joint mobilisations – Our physiotherapists apply passive low – high movements on specific joints to increase movement and decrease pain that may be contributing to the injury.
⚫ Nerve gliding – Our physiotherapists use nerve gliding in the situation where a nerve is compromised and is inflicting pain in a distant location such as the forearm or calf.
⚫ Traction – Our physiotherapists use traction to increase the space between joints and reduce friction on nerves.
⚫ Ultrasound therapy – Our physiotherapists use ultrasound to alleviate many injuries of the body. Such injuries include bursitis, tendinopathies, ligament sprain or tear and osteoarthritis
⚫ Specific strength training – Our physiotherapists use current research to find new exciting exercises that activate deeper muscles, and in turn reduce progression of injuries and improves performance
⚫ Strapping and taping – Our physiotherapists have extensive experience using rigid tape to prevent and secure specific joint and injuries.
