Yarra Ranges Remedial Massage Therapist Hi I’m James Smith the owner and remedial therapist at Yarra Ranges Massage. I am very passionate about remedial and sports massage, incidentally I am great at helping people make friends with their bodies!
Yarra Ranges Massage (YRM) was established in 2010.
I am a fully qualified remedial therapist, Remedial therapy is fantastic for your tight muscle problems or sorenessAFL accredited Trainer qualifications, and a member of Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT).
I realised how much I valued the health industry in providing me with good health. So I took up the challenge to be a good massage therapist and I believe I have evolved into great muskulo-skeletal specialist.
I have a science background (Bachelor of Applied Science from UNE.) I became interested in helping people through the benefits of massage and wanted to refine that. I took up study at the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy (MIMT) in Heidelberg Victoria.
One of my first jobs in the industry was (still occasionally) working as a Trainer at the Olinda Ferny Creek Football and Netball Club, for the Seniors, Reserves and under 18’s since 2012. Go the Bloods..!!
I have worked extensively with many different sportsmen and women in clubs. Some of my clients are: professional golfers, cyclists, amateur athletes, long distance runners AFL footballers, weight lifters and fitness competitors, Active people of all ages wishing to improve their performance .
I have an interest in helping the elderly and many are involved in the OBS (Older But Stronger) group at Spartans GYm and Fitness run by Vicky. A specialised over 60’s gym circuit class suitable for those with arthritis or osteoporosis, back/neck pain, joint replacement, shortness of breath or difficulty walking or balancing.
I have also worked in the corporate massage world (seated and roaming massage in the offices of Melbourne and outer suburbs). This has given me a great insight into the types of postural problems encountered and the high frequency of bad posture in the work place.
The Yarra Ranges Massage clinic located within the Spartans Gym and Fitness centre at Kilsyth. The business also runs a successful mobile service to your home.
Massage is a powerful tool, I have seen positive changes in most clients. I look forward to meeting you. Have a Fantastic day!
Currently I am the Olinda Ferny Creek Football Netball club trainer for the four netball teams enjoying a stellar season this year. Go Swannies!

Remedial massage is a deep massage done by a trained, highly qualified massage therapist, to create the conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders and poor posture.
It is used to treat chronic muscular-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, broken bones, bruising or any injury where the skin is intact.
Deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery and encourages more complete healing.
Remedial massage is often successful where other forms of treatment have failed.
Remedial massage is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C for: Pain relief in muscles and tendons removing and restoring those sore stiff muscles, Improved range of motion in your joints (great for improving sporting performance) stopping tension headaches and improving your posture so they stay away!!!

I have also specialised in the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (median nerve compression in your wrist/arm) using a variety of special techniques and good quality ‘targeted’ massage to get successful results. Headache
We’ve all experienced some form of them. If it is a tension headache it’ll likely be because of your posture (tight muscles) or dehydration. I can design a programme to reduce or eradicate tension headaches in most cases. You don’t need to keep suffering.
Stiff joints and muscles
The key to a long life…Keep your joints moving and working.
I can improve your range of joint motion in one session imagine what we can achieve in two!
Tight muscles, Poor Posture
Most of the time tight muscles are due to poor posture, many of us have tight annoying muscles. Sometimes they are like Knots or known as trigger points. They will make us feel old or sore, they will affect sport and work performance and they can turn into more trigger points or even injuries. And they lead to headaches for many people.
Remedial massage and the associated techniques we use at YRM are the best and quickest way of removing tight unwanted muscles, reduce headaches, drastically improve your posture through massage and exercise and suggestions for better ergonomics for those in the office will always be on offer.
Stress
Remedial Massage is the best way to de-stress by far (unless you are on a tropical beach with a cool drink in hand?) It actually assists the immune system, moves the toxins out and brings fresh blood to the muscles. Drinking water after helps flush the toxins through and out of your system.
A simple technique to help when you are feeling stressed is to breath in deep controlled fashion. This assists the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system regulates the flight or flight responses. The air you breath in helps dilute the adrenalin in your body and hence relaxes you!
Chineses Vacuum Cupping
At Yarra Ranges Massage at Kilsyth I offer cupping to those who know the benefits or would be greatly benefited from having them applied to injured, sore or tight muscles and tendons. Don’t underestimate their power and effectiveness.
When injuries occur deep in the muscle, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises. There will also be edema in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins. The combining presence of these elements usually results in stagnation of circulation to the area – resulting in pain, dysfunction, and chronic conditions.
The vacuum formed by Cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the area, bringing them up to the surface and away from the injury so that healthy free circulation can be restored to the affected area, thus creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.
Where there is dead, static blood, lymph, cellular debris, pathogenic factors, and toxins present in the body,
Cupping can leave marks which indicates that the stagnation or disease has been moved from the deeper tissue layers to the surface.
The marks go away after 3-5 days. I have never had a complaint from any client or footy team in three years.
