Affinitas Accounting has been providing accounting taxation and accounting services to businesses and individuals from our offices in Brisbane’s northern suburbs since 1987.

Originally know as Online Accounting & Taxation Solutions (or Online Tax for short) the name was coined in the era where tax returns were first lodged via online modems with the tax department.

Fast forward more than 25 years and in the world of email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc, the word online now means something much broader and we found that prospective new clients wondered whether we only dealt with people over the net and not face-to-face.

In fact, our ethos is quite the opposite. We make smart and efficient use or up-to-date technology, but we sincerely believe in getting to know our clients and that often includes at least a couple of face-to-face meetings each year

And that’s where the name Affinitas came from. Affinitas is Latin for “connection” and that is our aim – to stay connected to our clients, their needs and the broader community.

What I Love About My Role: Seeing our clients “put it all together” and achieve business and personal financial success. Seeing my team members grow and develop their skill sets.

What I Do For Fun: Over 40’s Cricket; tennis, horse racing, fishing watching sport, reading, music. Beach walks with my wife and my dog.

My Dislikes: Inconsiderate people, passionfruit, Brussel sprouts

If I wasn’t doing this my dream job would be: Manager of the Australian Cricket Team

Toni Sweeney

Qualification: CPA Registered Tax Agent, BBus Acc

Role in practice: Partner, Taxation compliance, Tax Planning, Rental properties, Trusts and Companies Structuring

What I Love About My Role: Being able to help my clients build wealth and create better businesses so they have more time to spend with their families.

What I Do For Fun: Love anything art and crafty. Getting outdoors and enjoying my boys.

My Dislikes: Receipts in shoeboxes!!!  Any type of tinned fish

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Retired (I wish), traveling and spending quality time with my family.

Debbie Duncan

Role in practice: Partner – Senior Tax Consultant

What I Love About My Role: Working with a great team of people. Catching up with my clients each year and helping them with their tax needs.

What I Do For Fun: Jet skiing, cruising.

My Dislikes: Rude people and poor customer service.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Working in a travel agency so I can talk about cruising to people all day long.

Tanya du Preez

Qualification: Chartered Accountant, B Comm. Dip Acc

Role in practice: Partner – Finance and Business Consulting
What I Love About My Role: I work with clients to structure and secure finance for homes, investment properties and their businesses, helping them take control back from the banks. I also help clients learn about property investment and evaluate how this could work for them.

It’s difficult to beat the satisfaction I get from helping a client kick their financial goals and set new ones!

What I Do For Fun: Yoga, Pilates and Booty Barre, reading and spending time outdoors with my family.

My Dislikes: Red tape, bureaucracy and green peppers.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: It would have to be something involving design – either shoes or jewellery.

Anita Schmidt

Role in practice: Office Manager, Payroll, Accounts Payable/Receivable.

What I Love About My Role: Being involved in the implementation of any changes. I love seeing things come together. Interaction with the entire team and being able to assist them where I can.

What I Do For Fun: I have no specific hobby but in my spare time I enjoy back yard BBQ’s with the family and I find nothing more peaceful than sitting on a boat or on the beach and just watching the water.

My Dislikes: Poor customer service, bad manners and putting on weight

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: To own a shoe shop.

Jenelle Hollingdale

Role in practice: Admin, reception and bookkeeping.

What I Love About My Role: I enjoy the variety of work I do and working with a great team.

What I Do For Fun: I like going out in our boat and trying to catch some fish.  Gardening and cooking.

My Dislikes: I find overseas telemarketing calls very annoying.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Managing a holiday resort in Fiji.

Michelle Esler

Role in practice: Client Services Manager, Financial Planning.

What I Love About My Role: Providing excellent customer service and surpassing my customers expectations.  Meeting the variety of clientele we deal with.

What I Do For Fun: Enjoy my grandchildren, ride motorbikes, watch football and sew.

My Dislikes: Being placed on hold for long periods of time when making phone calls.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Travel Writer.

Tammy Griffin

Qualification: BBus (Acct), CPA, Registered Tax Agent

Role in practice: Associate, Senior Tax Accountant

What I Love About My Role: Playing my role in helping clients’ businesses grow from year to year and achieve their goals.

What I Do For Fun: I love my dogs, they take up most of my time. I also love camping and being outdoors.

My Dislikes: Sea food!! I also have a love/hate relationship with heights.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Environmentalist working with penguins.

Rika Clainos

Qualifications: BComm (Acct)

Role in practice: Tax Consultant

What I Love About My Role: I love the challenges and learning new ways of helping our clients.  I love the service we provide and the subsequent outcome of happy clients.  It’s the most satisfying feeling when your clients are happy and realise the work that goes into their financials and tax returns.

What I Do For Fun: Travel, go camping, BBQ with family and friends, go to the beach, reading.

My Dislikes:  Anchovies and rude people.

If I Wasn’t Doing This, My Dream Job Would Be: Travel the world as a ratings officer for a travel guide or perhaps renovate and restore furniture on an acreage near the beach
