I began my working life as a Legal Secretary by day and worked in hospitality at night.  I always had a burning desire to help people and I attended my first massage course in 1975.

After travelling and working my way around Europe, Greece and London I settled down to more work as a Legal Secretary.

I then became a Mum and raised 2 beautiful daughters.  During their school years I became accredited as a Remedial Therapist and a Learn to Swim Teacher.

I became the School Masseuse and taught Learn to Swim at a private girls’school.

I implemented a Talented Development Programme for talented athletes at the school, and managed the program for 5 years.

This provided sports massage for gilrs that were competing in sports of all kinds.

I  concentrated on using Trigger Point Therapy, Structural Alignment and Deep Tissue massage.

During this time I also maintained a clinic room at my home at Annerley.  I have a diverse range of clients from Tri-athletes to patients dealing with stress.

In 2006, passed yet another midlife crisis, (both my girls moved out of home, and our beloved family dog past away)  I was left wondering who I was and what I wanted to do.

So………….. after much thought I decided to study Bachelor Degree in Acupuncture at Endeavour college and here I am.

I completed an Internship at the Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University in Nanning, China in 2009; working, observing and learning alongside noted and respected doctors and professors within the Chinese Hospital system.

I have enlarged my clinic at Annerley and provide Acupuncture, moxa, cupping, electro-acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, massage, dietary advice, chinese herbs, exercise advice and vitamins.

I have always used Acupuncture as my preferred health treatment for myself, and I am truly amazed at the wonderful results that are achieved when patients adhere to treatments, and the positive outcomes they achieve health wise.

Please feel free to call me about any health concerns you may have and together we can work out a treatment plan to get you on the road to recovery to feeling, rested, pain free and happy.

Consequently, each patient’s treatment is as individual as their personal characterictics.

The number of treatments that are required varies.  A general rule of thumb is that the more chronic the disease/symptom, the more treatments are required.

This is why it is important to maintain good health at all time.  And when ill, seek treatment immediately to prevent illness from moving into deeper more serious levels in the body.

Acupuncture – restores balance in the body and is highly effective in treating an array of conditions.  Its success in pain management is well documented and it was for this reason that Acupuncture was initially introduced to the west.

Acupuncture involves needling points along specific meridians around the body to bring about balance.

One of the most important concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine is that of “Qi”(pronounced chee) which is the Chinese word for energy.

Disease occurs when a person’s Qi is out of balance and therefore Chinese Medicine is about balancing Qi.

This means that if there is too much Qi, the excess is reduced, too little and the deficiency is enhanced, uneven and the Qi is more evenly distributed.

MOXIBUSTION –  Moxa is a small and spongy plant, also called  Mugwort in English, Ai ye in Chinese and Artemesia Vulgaris in Latin.

Therapists use moxa, a dried form of the herbs, to warm specific areas of the body.

The purpose of moxa treatment is to stimulate circulation through the points and encourage a better flow of qi, or energy through the body’s meridians, by combating cold and dampness.

I use Moxa to stimulate a better flow of qi and to decrease inflammation.

Most clients describe the feeling of the treament as a calm, warming sensation that helps them to feel comfortable and relaxed.

Moxa encourages deep breathing and inproved circulation which helps to ease deep muscle tension.

MOXA is especially helpful in treating conditions including:

Muscle tension
Chronic pain
Arthritis
Carpel tunnel syndrom and Repetitive strain injuries

MOXA for women’s health

Moxa has also been shown to be effective emmenagogue, which means that it helps to stimulate blood flow to the pelvic area and uterus and regulate menstruation.

The benefits of moxa treatments for women include:

Decreased menstrual cramps
Reduced risk of pelvic inflammatory disease
Improved fertility
Inducing labour and decreasing the length and intensity of contractions.

A study published recently in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that 75% of pregnant women with breech babies turned to the normal position following moxa therapy.

MOXA TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN

Moxa can be used safely and effectively on people of all ages, including young children.

The advantage of using moxa alone is that it can be used for children who are particularly apprehensive of needles that are used in acupuncture.

THE BEAUTY OF MOXA THERAPY IS THAT OFTEN THE PATIENT WILL NOTICE AN IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT.

CUPPING

Cupping therapy works by lifting the body’s connective tissue,  loosening adhesions and restoring blood flow to areas of the body that have been restricted.  It is an excellent treatment for stress, fatigue, aches and pains.

Cupping therapy is also gaining a lot of attention for its beneficial effects in treating rheumatoid arthritis in a natural way.  It helps sufferers by reducing the pain and inflammation felt at the affected joints.

As a complimentary method to deep tissue massage, cupping can be used to treat very tight muscles, by enhancing the body’s ability to drain toxins and inflammatory substances, stimulate the nerves and allows fresh blood flow to the various muscles.

Many people who receive cupping treatments say that it feels like one of the deepest massage they’ve had, but one that takes only 5 – 20 minutes.

Cupping is a very safe treatment when performed by an experienced and qualified acupuncturist.

It should not be done on people with a high fever, ulcerated sores or on any areas of the body with a thin layer of skin.

If you are having a cupping treatment you should be aware that it may leave areas of sha (discolouration) which are not dangerous, but may take several days to disappear completely.

“The marks do have a great benefit – they help the therapist in diagnosing different conditions, the darker the mark that is left by a cup, the more stagnation there is in the surrounding muscle areas.

For example, if you suffer from lower back pain,  it’s likely that the darkest spots will appear in that area,  but as you receive successive treatments, the marks will become lighter and lighter as the underlying condition improves.

Electro-acupuncture

I use electro-acupuncture for those stubborn muscle aches and pains.

Electro-acupuncture is quite similar to traditional acupuncture in that the same points are stimuated during treatment .

As with traditional acupuncture, needles are inserted on specific points along the body.

The needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses using small clips.

These devices are used to adjust the frequency and intensity of the impulse being delivered, depending on the condition being treated.

Electro-acupuncture is considered to be especially useful for conditions in which there is an accumulation of chi, such as in chronic pain syndromes, or in cases where the chi is difficult to stimulate.

Auricular-Acupuncture

Ear Acupuncture complements other therapies, but isn’t a main treatment itself.

It was the French Physician , the late Dr Paul Nogier, in the 1950’s after seeing one of his patients cured of sciatic back pain with the use of ear acupuncture, who then began to research and develop modern ear acupuncture, and carried on researching and refining the therapy.

Dr Nogier’s research indicated that there are over 100 or so separate acupuncture points on the external ear and that when these points are stimulated they are believed to influence the various organs and systems in the body.

I use Auricular Acupuncture as an adjunct to my acupuncture treatments, I find it beneficial for insomnia, stress and painful conditions.  I also use a combination of points called the NADA PROTOCOL to help with addictions.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbal medicine promotes prevention and an integrates, holistic approach, instead of simply trying to cure disease after they’ve become a full-blown state.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 80% of the world’s population uses herbal remedies to care for their health because these remedies are natural and have very few side effects.

Traditional Patent Medicines can be used safely by people of all levels of wellness, because they are naturally derived.

Since many of the remedies have been used for thousand of years, through generations of clinical experience, any strong, undesirable side effects have long been eliminated.

I use Chinese Herbs to compliment the acupuncture treatments.

Massage – is a holistic therapy that helps to improve circulation, relieve stress and anxiety, reduce muscle tension, relieve aches and pain and headaches.

Massage increases energy, promotes sound sleep, and promotes general feelings of wellbeing.

Massage is also used for recovering from sports injuries, encouraging healing, increasing blood flow, and is great for athletes during competition or during training.

Exercise tips – Stretching is beneficial for increasing mobility and range of motion.  Gentle exercise is helpful if suffering from depression, insomnia, arthritis.

Are you having trouble losing weight, gentle exercise helps release endorphins that make you feel good which will assist in a healthy life style for management of healthy eating.

Yoga, pilates, swimming, walking, tai chi, all are very beneficial to maintain a healthy life style.

Dietary advice – Lets do up a food diary for a week to see what your diet is like.

Are you lacking in any vital nutrients, are you bowels sluggish, is you skin not as vibrant as it could be.

They let’s investigate what foods would benefit to kick start a healthy eating regime.
