BODYWORKX clinic now provides Myotherapy and Remedial Massage treatments from two great locations, Ringwood and Watsonia.
SIMONE BASILE
Simone treats her patients using a combination of deep tissue massage, muscle manipulation, myofascial dry needling and cupping techniques to address the variety of sports and clinical injuries she is presented with. Simone is a member of The Institute of Registered Myotherapists of Australia (IRMA).
Simone has worked with Collingwood Football Club, Purcell Dojos martial arts club and Hurstbridge Football Club. Her specialties are tennis elbow and repetitive strain injuries, and she can offer treatment for and relief from your injury or chronic pain.
Simone says, “Looking at the musculoskeletal system as a whole, the way I treat is to address muscle dysfunction by decreasing tight muscles and strengthening weak muscles. More importantly though for these treatments to be sustained, I also address incorrect posture through specific exercises and increasing core strength so that the body is better able to work in its own natural balance and function.”
Simone works out of both our Ringwood and Watsonia clinic.
Jessica Jelleff

She also has managed sports injuries through her time spent as a trainer for a local Football Netball club.
Overall her true passion is restoring wellbeing to her patients.
Quote:
‘Alongside my physical assessment of the body, I often discuss with my patients lifestyle factors such as;
diet, stress, nutrition, exercise and forming of habits (both good and bad!) and relate them to their bodies current state.
I believe using this holistic approach addresses the patient as an individual and allows me to tailor make a treatment program specific to their wants and needs whilst also considering their time, physical and financial constraints.’

Postural Analysis
If you suffer from a muscular injury or have pain, stiffness or tightness within the body, then you may need to see a Myotherapist.
In many cases of injuries or tightness our muscles are our first line of defence. To save our body from severe damage whether its a disc, bone or a ligament injury, our muscles will defend our body. To do this they will go into a muscle spasm or cramp, restricting our movement which locks down the body to prevent further injury. From our muscles locking down it may also cause our joints to jam up or our nerves to become impinged. So it is very important to look at the muscle involvement of any injury.
In an acute injury we may need to address if there is inflammation present. If it is quite severe like a disc impingement then a course of anti inflammatories may be needed. In other injuries rest and ice may be sufficient.
Once the injury has settled down but not continuing to improve then this is the best time to see a Myotherapist. From then your Myotherapist we assess the injury and treat it as appropriate. It may need a few treatments along with a treatment plan and corrective exercises or stretches to get you back to your sport, work or activity.
After you injury has completle recovered you may wish to get a Myotherapy or Remedial Massage as a tune up, as part of a health and lifestyle management plan. This is one way to keep your muscles in best functioning order and reduce stress and tension placed upon our bodies.
Chronic injuries may take longer to treat and can be more involved. A treatment plan is the best way to help your recovery. It may involve your Myothetapist working along side specialist, physios, osteopaths and other health professionals.
So whether you are suffering from an acute or chronic injury or just want some stress relief give us a call today and we will talor a treatment plan that is right for you.
Myotherapy and Remedial Massage can be used in the preventative, treatment and management stages of any injury or muscular complaint.
Remedial Massage
Everyone can benefit from regular massage, from babies to the elderly, to sportspeople, labourers and officer workers. You don’t have to be suffering from soreness – a regular massage is the key to better health.
Massage stretches muscles, inhibits muscle spasm, increases flexibility and helps break down scar tissue. Therefore, it can help you recover from injury, either from an accident, sport or surgery.
A neck and shoulder massage can also alleviate repetitive strain injuries resulting from poor posture or sitting for long periods of time.
If you play sport, regular massage can help prevent injury. A remedial massage therapist can develop a massage program in conduction with your training to maximise your performance and rehabilitation.
There are a number of health funds that rebate massage treatment in Australia.
Dry Needling
The term dry needling is used to differentiate the use of needling in western medicine from the use of needling in an oriental medicine, which is referred to as acupuncture.
Dry needling works via insertion of a sterile, fine filament needle into a “Trigger Point” within a taut band of muscle, stimulating a local twitch response and thereby releasing certain chemicals throughout the body, for therapeutic effect. Dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin with very few side effects.
The needle used is very thin and most subjects do not even feel it penetrate the skin. A healthy muscle feels very little discomfort with insertion of this needle. However if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or has active trigger points within it, the subject will feel a sensation like a muscle cramp -’the twitch response’. Patients soon learn to recognise and even welcome this sensation as it results in deactivating the trigger point, reducing pain and restoring normal length and function to the involved muscle.
