Chop Shop was established in a small vacant lot in Victoria Street in
2005, nestled between Potts Point and Kings Cross.
The shop started from humble beginnings, with Dan Dixon originally operating the venture as a ‘one-man band’ on a tiny inheritance from his beloved grandmother.
His idea was to create a salon that was easily accessible, provided quality hairdressing with ‘professional only’ products, and projected a certain sense of street-edged cool. It wasn’t long before Chop Shop was a fully functioning salon.
The Rose logo of Chop Shop was designed as a tribute to Dan’s grandmother, Noni, a keen gardener and very important person in his life. She passed two weeks after the opening of the salon, and her picture hangs to this day in the Kings Cross Shop.
The concept of the store quickly caught on, and a second location was opened in Bondi Beach in early 2008.
By constantly working on a positive outlook in both life and business, as well as forging brand alliances with product lines such as EVO, American Crew, Kevin Murphy, Revlon and O&M, Dan has pushed Chop Shop to a state of great reputation within the community and industry.
In 2009 Bondi Chop Shop took out the Wentworth Courier Small Business Awards, after both stores had been nominated as finalists for two consecutive years.
Of course the concept, the salon and the reputation would be nothing withoutthe Team. Dan has surrounded himself with a raft of trusted and like-minded artists, all of whom understand the vital ingredients that make a great hair experience; skill, passion, and a warm sense of humour.
No pretensions, just great hair!
