Our Staff
Lisa Tomlinson-Alonso
After graduating in 1985 Lisa Tomlinson-Alonso had the opportunity to commence Bondi Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre from a humble one room beginnings in O’Brien Street Bondi in 1987. It is a measure of the respect from the Bondi Community that she has grown the Clinic to its current status in Curlewis Street over 3 decades.
Sport has always been a prime focus of Lisa’s life. As an athlete she played in the National Women’s Basketball League. As a Sports Physiotherapist, Basketball has been a prime professional focus, appointed Physiotherapist for the WNBL Flames (1993-2000) and the NBL Kings (1997-2000). She also toured with the Australian Women’s Basketball – Australian Opals as their Sports Physiotherapist.
Despite her 400+ games of National League experience, her local sporting community involvement is extensive, particularly with Schoolboy Rugby Union having looked after GPS Sydney Grammar and CAS Waverley College since the th 80s – a wealth of experience & understanding of ‘The Adolescent Athlete’.
The early days at Bondi Physiotherapy saw the sole focus being her clinical work, however she is now nuturing 3 growing children who themselves show their mothers aptitude to achieving in their particular sports. Lisa balances an incredible amount between family life and her professional life and does both at the highest level.
Albert Alonso
Albert Alonso graduated from Sydney University in 1985 and pursued a Sports Physiotherapy career pathway, working with National League teams in the National Rugby League, National Basketball League, National Womens Basketball League and Australian Hockey Championships.
He brings to the Bondi Community the experience of 21 seasons of working with the NRL Canterbury Bulldogs (1988-2008), the final 9 years servicing the team full time. In this period he was also team Sports Physiotherapist for the NBL West Sydney Razorbacks, which were also owned by the Canterbury League Consortium, and he worked alongside coaches of the highest calibre in Steve Folkes and Gordon McLeod. Assisting each Club make the transition from part-time sports in the 80s & 90s to full time professional sports gives Albert the unique understanding of the athletic requirements from ‘The Weekend Warrior’ to ‘The Professional Athlete’.
Professional development has always been a priority, achieving his Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in 2002 and appointment as Honorary Research Associate of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Sydney University, including supervision of Honours Research projects with Dr Roger Adams culminating in research publication in peer review journals.

Services
Industrial Athletes
Whether it’s hours of sitting, or one heavy lift, your body needs to be in shape to handle the load of prolonged sustained sitting, such as sitting in front of a PC or driving can cause negative effects on your spine because low load – high repetition is as damaging as a high load – one repetition injury. Musculoskeletal structures are designed to move, therefore structures such as spinal discs, joints and muscles deteriorate with passive – no movement postures. Unfortunately, modern day living involves inordinate amounts of sitting and consequently poses a challenge to the 21st century spine.
Recreational Athletes
The ‘Weekend Warrior’ is notorious for under training mid-week but come game day – it’s full on! Often this is a recipe for disaster and injury. With a 1000+ games of National League experience, let us assist you with a prompt and accurate diagnosis, and injury rehab plan or referral pathway to Sydney’s top specialists, and then a ‘Return to Play’ programme. Learning about training methods and your musculoskeletal health – Patient Education is and essential process so that Injury Prevention is maximised.
Adolescent Athletes
You are at the ‘Peak of Activity’ in life but your body is changing rapidly. Changes in adolescent hormones means rapid changes in bone and muscular skeletal system. The forces you experience and exert in sport escalates quickly as you progress from Junior sport towards Adolescent and then Adult sport. You are often multi-talented and play many sports that overlap in sessions. You’re selected in a Representative team and your training sessions increase. Add the total weekly training load and suddenly you have a high load on your body that may not have made the transition to cope.
Professional Athletes
With ‘1000+ games’ of National League experience across many different sports, our Physiotherapists understand the training loads needed to succeed at the highest level. Professional Athletes are referred to us for independent opinions and rehabilitation from a wide spectrum of sports.
