Brown Brothers Plumbing and Heating Company, serving the triangle since 1933,  is a family owned and operated business specializing in plumbing and heating services for both new construction and remodels.   Brown Brothers is qualified in servicing the commercial, industrial, residential and institutional business sectors.  We are NFPA 99 certified and a Public Utility Contractor.  Brown Brothers commitment to quality and service sets us apart from other contractors.  Our employees are family oriented and entrusted to perform their duties in a sincere, friendly and trusting manner.  This assures Brown Brothers a commitment for a lifetime with our customers, both commercial and residential.

Brown Brothers was founded in March of 1933 by W. L. Brown who received his N.C. State Master Plumbing and Heating License. At this time he started working out of a backyard shop.   He was soon joined by his brother, Charles V. Brown.  Norman J. Whitaker purchased the company in January, 1977 and operated the company for 21 years.  Norman was active in numerous plumbing and civic organizations. He served as President of North Carolina Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Association, served on the PHCC licensing board, and was very active in the Durham Engineers Club, Mt. Sylvan Ruritan Club, Durham Civitan Club, Durham Wildlife Club, and the Holt Athletic Association which he has served as President and coached basketball and baseball for 25 years. In December of 1985, Norman became Chairman of the Board and Rick A. Whitaker became President.  In July 1986, a new 10,000 square foot building next door to the old building was occupied.

On October 1, 1998 after 31 years activity in the plumbing trade, Norman sold the business to his children and Morris Stanford.  This brought to conclusion a major goal of his, successfully passing on the business to the next generation, establishing a mainstay in the industry for years to come.

“Wasn’t impressed by their poor communication and service when they came out to do the plumbing for our bathroom, toilet, and sink. We were doing a complete bathroom renovation and needed some new holes drilled into our slab for new pipes. They showed up to drill the holes but didn’t actually bother bringing the necessary equipment and had to borrow our carpenters tools. On several occasions they didn’t show up at the time or the day they had advised. When we contacted them they would say they didn’t recall telling us they’d be there – this happening once is understandable; but several times is just plain rude, especially as we had taken days off work to meet them at the house. When they completed the job we discovered a leak in the shower. We also went under the house to check on the work under there and found several leaks there too. We called them but they sent an offsider to fix the job. It’s been several months since our renovations and we seem to be springing leaks all over the place! Both the sink and the plumbing under the sink had leaks. The bath tap had a leak. The shower has a significant leak to the point that it has damaged parts of the bathroom. Considering the state of our plumbing we haven’t called them back as we don’t trust the quality of their work whatsoever. As we hired them based on the positive reviews we read on this site, we felt it was necessary to share our very negative experience. We would certainly not recommend them based on our experience.”
