Adv Dip in Myotherapy
I completed my Advanced Diploma in Myotherapy in March 2015. I’ve also completed a Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and a Diploma of Remedial Massage.
I am passionate about helping people get the most out of their bodies. I believe that you should not have to live with pain and discomfort on a daily basis.
Myotherapy can help eliminate aches and pains and increase flexibility and functional movement.
I love working with athletes and have been privileged to be able to massage regularly at the Queensland Tennis Centre working with Australia’s tennis stars of the future.
Whether you’re a serious athlete or you just like to stay fit, myotherapy can help you perform better.
If you run, swim, ride or play sport of any kind, then myotherapy is for you.
If you’re feeling sore, achy, tired, suffer from headaches or chronic pain, then myotherapy is for you.
What is myotherapy?
Myotherapy is a manual therapy that can assist in treating the most common musculoskeletal dysfunctions that result from poor posture, poor biomechanics or injury.
What can a myotherapist do?
Myotherapists can use a wide range of techniques to assess and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions and prevent further dysfunctions occurring. These techniques include functional movement screens, dry needling, corrective exercise, TENS, myofascial cupping, joint mobilisation, trigger pointing, strapping, kinesiology tape and many more.
What can myotherapists treat?
Myotherapists can treat the most common musculoskeletal dysfunctions, including back and neck pain, upper and lower cross syndromes, sports injury and chronic pain. If you have aches or pains in muscles or joints, or if you would like to continue to live pain free, then a myotherapist can help you.
What is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage?
Myotherapy is the next step on from remedial massage. Remedial massage still plays a big part in a myotherapy treatment.
Where remedial massage therapists assess and treat areas of pain in the body, myotherapists go a step further to find the source of the pain, which may not actually be the area that feels the pain.
Using full body screens, based on functional movement, and a larger range of techniques myotherapists main aim is identifying and fixing the source of the pain to allow people to live pain free.
Most musculoskeletal dysfunctions are caused by one, or more, of these three things, tight muscles, weak muscles or immobile joints.
Remedial massage therapists tend to focus on releasing the tight muscles, myotherapists have the ability to address all three areas to help clients achieve pain free, functional movement.
The ability of a myotherapist to prescribe corrective exercises and a home exercise program for the client allows the client to continue improving their movement and strength outside of the treatment time.
