THE BUSINESS BACKUP STORY
Born out of a belief that many businesses suffer through poor record keeping and a lack of understanding of their financial performance, Business Backup was established in 1986. The fledgling Business Backup produced easy to understand financial reports for its clients and set out to provide their accountants with quality data that readily interfaced with their systems and processes.

Mardi Jones
CEO
Mardi has over 18 years’ of accounting experience across a broad range of industries, entities and individuals. She has a wealth of knowledge and skills gained over this time, advising on accounting, bookkeeping and taxation. Mardi has a Bachelor of Accounting, is a full registered member of CPA and is a registered Tax Agent & BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board.Through her highly developed analytical skills Mardi is able to bring a unique insight into the needs of a company’s bookkeeping and accounting requirements. Under Mardi’s leadership Business Backup is focused on continuing to deliver a high quality of service and expertise in all areas of Bookkeeping, Accounting & Taxation services.
Reece LeCornu
ACCOUNTANT
Reece joined the Business Backup team in February 2015. He has been in the tax and accounting industry since 2010. Reece’s professional credentials include a Bachelor of Accounting with a joint study in Marketing from Charles Sturt University. He also has Certificate III in Financial Services from Albury Tafe. Reece is experienced in cloud accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks Online, in which he is a certified advisor for both programs. He is also very experienced to use your standard software such as MYOB and Reckon. Reece has extensive knowledge of tax and accounting as he has spent many years in the Australian Taxation Office and also public accounting practices.
John Templeton
FINANCIAL ADVISOR
John Templeton is a financial advisor, currently an Authorised Representative with Synchronised Business Services Pty Ltd. John began his career in 1983 and is well established as a Risk Insurer adviser. John is well respected in the financial services industry and has built strong professional relationships with various life offices over the last 30 years. We are pleased with this new valuable addition to our team where we can draw on his wealth of knowledge and experience and ensure that our clients’ needs are well supported. John specialises in superannuation and insurances – Life, Income Protection, Critical Illness and TPD.
Carol Humphreys
OFFICE MANAGER/BOOKKEEPER
Carol has been a bookkeeper for the past 15 years. Within that time she has completed her Certificate IV & Diploma in Accounting. Carol is experienced in MYOB and Xero. Carol is registered as a BAS agent, MYOB partner and a member of the ABN (Australian Bookkeepers Network).
Fiona Smith
BOOKKEEPER
Fiona Smith started with Business Backup 15 years ago. With 22 years of experience in commercial accounting and bookkeeping she provides a wide range of services. Including AP/AR, Payroll, reconciliations, monthly report and liaising with accountants.She has a Bachelor of Commerce and specialises in Reckon, MYOB and Xero.Fiona is well organised, professional and reliable.
Heleanor Mellers
BOOKKEEPER
Heleanor is an organised and efficient self-starter with 25 years experience in office administration and management. With a successful track record of prioritising and controlling office work flow in a fast paced environment, she is a trusted professional. She is articulate and has a proven ability to interact at all levels enabling her to supply management with relevant financial data and reporting in a timely manner. Heleanor is a Registered BAS Agent with a Certificate IV in Accounting (Bookkeeping) as well as being proficient in MYOB, Quickbooks and Sybiz.
Ingrid Janssen
BOOKKEEPER
Ingrid has been a bookkeeper for over 30 years, is a registered BAS Agent, has a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) and has partially completed a course in Bachelor of Accounting.Ingrid has a long history of bookkeeping and office practices in the Building and Construction industry. She also has experience in retail, pharmacy, automotive and various other small-medium businesses.Ingrid has been with Business Backup since 2001.
Gaby Trestrail
BOOKKEEPER
Gaby has worked for Business Backup since September 2010. Previous to this Gaby spent 12yrs working in accounting firms in country NSW and Brisbane doing IAS, BAS, tax returns, financial statements and company returns. Highly experienced in MYOB, Reckon and Xero. Qualifications: Advance diploma in Business Administration from Sydney University and Certificate IV in Accounting. Gaby is also a registered BAS Agent.
Adele McDonald
BOOKKEEPER
Adele McDonald started working for Business Backup in 2009. Within her 20 years experience in Finance and Admin Adele has completed her Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and Accounting and is a registered BAS agent.Relationships are of paramount importance to Adele. Time management, attention to detail and working closely with others are also a high priority. Adele is across all packages but her preference is MYOB.
Jenny Cappiello
OFFICE ASSISTANT
Jenny is our office assistant and our newest team member. She has had over 20years experience in managing small businesses. She offers excellent client communication, and is here to support and help with all questions and concerns to ensure client satisfaction.
Suzy Bell
ACCOUNTANT
Suzy started out working in England for a telecommunications company back in 2001 working on spreadsheets and has loved Microsoft excel ever since. She then became a debt collector for NIKE in their European headquarters in the Accounts Receivable department and in 2004 Suzy returned to Australia and completed her accounting degree and obtained her CPA qualification in 2009 and has been working as an Accountant ever since. Suzy is also a registered BAS Agent and a Justice of the Peace (Qualified) Suzy enjoys helping clients solve problems and fix systems.
10 years’ experience with MYOB.
Assisted several clients in the successful switch to XERO.
Excel Advanced with use of VBA
Suzy’s key stills lie in systems improvement and efficiency and she loves to work as part of a team.
Susan Stafford
BAS AGENT
Sue’s early work career was in the banking sector having worked in the UK and Australia in this field. She has also worked for the British Trade Commission in New York but it was the establishment and successful financial management of her family owned Pest Control business in New South Wales where her bookkeeping prowess blossomed. She soon became well known for her financial skills and was helping other businesses and non-profit organizations to setup and maintain healthy bookkeeping practices.
Through the 90’s Sue developed many and varied skills in all types of electronic bookkeeping to meet the demands of her clients. This lead to Sue obtaining a specialist qualification and accreditation with QuickBooks through Intuit. As an accredited QuickBooks Trainer Sue helped many small businesses make the transition into the era of GST bookkeeping. Sue comes with a wealth of know and is a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board.
2005 saw Sue receiving the QuickBooks Accredited Partner status (Bookkeeping) with Intuit, and her strengths continued to multiply. In her own words her self-developed specialty is now what she terms ‘Creating order out of Chaos’ bringing outdated backlogs of work into a systematic and up to date methodology.
Sharon Clifford
BAS AGENT
Sharon’s experience and knowledge across all facets of bookkeeping and accounting is second to none as she has over 15 years experience in the profession. As well as performing the bookkeeping role in her previous positions, she is also experienced in:
– the preparation of personal and business tax returns;
– the preparation of business financial statements;
– the preparation of corporate compliance documentation;
arranging and negotiating business insurance including public liability insurance and workers compensation;
budgeting, marketing and quoting.
Sharon is also very experienced in the use of MYOB and has gained a very high working knowledge of this program. She has an Advanced Diploma in Accounting from Newcastle TAFE as well as a Secretarial Certificate. Sharon is a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Leeann Hall
BAS AGENT
Leeann’s goal as a professional Bookkeeper is to enable you to spend more time growing your business and cash flow by removing compliance burdens associated with bookkeeping. Leeann’s experience over the past 10 years in account keeping, administrative, finance and human resource has enabled her to understand your needs. As a small business owner in today’s ever changing business world, Leeann’s focus is to enhance and to add value by ensuring you have the information required to maximise profits in your business. Leeann has completed a Certificate IV in Finance and is a registered BAS agent. Leeann will make a difference in various fields of your business administration, regardless if it is data entry, reconcile your bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and other related bookkeeping tasks, payroll services, managing your cashflow, profit and loss reporting or training you on the latest accounting software such as MYOB, or Xero. Leeann can do as much or as little bookkeeping as you require to keep your accounts up to date and give you the information to make informed business decisions. Leeann will work closely with your tax accountant to ensure your BAS statements and Tax returns are completed on time and correctly. Leeann would love to come and see you and suggest ways that she can assist your business.
Jean Koh
BAS AGENT
Jean is an experienced bookkeeper having worked with a variety of clients since 1996.
Jean is also a Chartered Accountant, having graduated from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1999. Jean has a passion for accounting and bookkeeping and has many years of commercial experience. Jean is a registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board. She is also a Xero Certified Advisor/Quickbooks Pro-advisor and a MYOB expert. Jean loves problem solving and enjoys automating processes to make procedures more efficient. She specialises is converting manual bookkeeping to online bookkeeping and tidying up messy accounts. Jean brings joy and humour to bookkeeping and loves a challenge.
Tracy McGinness
Admin
Tracy has always had an interest in accounting and bookkeeping. She spent 2 years working in an administration role for a local accounting and finance firm. Tracy went straight into working in administration (11 years at different levels), followed by working in Tenancy Management (11 years experience). Tracy enjoys new challenges and has always had a keen yearning to learn to better her knowledge and skills base. As a Mum and a wife, spare time is rare. She enjoys spending time with my family and the occasional night out with friends and when she can she loves a bit of reading, and gardening.
