At CNS Partners, we aim to provide you with the advice when your business needs it, not just when you ask for it.

CNS Partners was established by Joe Catalano in the North Brisbane suburb of Alderley in 1991 (our home for 24 years until March 2015).  Currently the firm has 4 directors and 10 team members.  Our focus is on clients in business.  The firm has an envious retention rate because of our commitment to personalised care and attention.  We thank our clients for their continued support and seemingly endless supply of referrals. We are now happily settled into our lovely Ashgrove premises, where we have the space and facilities we need to provide a better service to valued clients.

Joe Catalano CA
Director – Business Services

Joe entered the accounting profession in 1983 at the Brisbane office of a Multinational Accounting Firm. After 8 years collecting extensive experience in a large corporate environment, Joe took the plunge and opened the doors of a one man practice. His primary motivation was the desire to offer a more personalised service and this philosophy remains the core pillar of our service offerings to this day. As founding partner, Joe has been involved from the early humble beginnings, to the successful, multi-faceted organisation our clients currently enjoy. Joe has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting (CA), is a registered tax agent and holds a public practice certificate.

Deborah Marshall CPA
Director – Business Services

Debbie joined CNS Partners in 1997 as a senior accountant and client manager after nearly 10 years managing the client base of small public accounting practices. Not only does she have extensive experience across all areas of public practice, but Debbie also possesses extraordinary technical knowledge, being the main go-to person in the firm for advice on any accounting matter. Debbie has a Bachelor of Business, is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), a registered tax agent and holds a public practice certificate.

Scott Grady CA
Director – Business Services

Scott became a Director in January 2010 after gaining management experience in large Brisbane accounting firms, which enables him to appreciate the diverse role of an accountant, from both a large corporate environment and the more intimate service required from a suburban adviser. Since becoming a director at CNS Partners, Scott has taken a keen interest in assisting his clients achieve their business goals and manage their taxation obligations. His main areas of expertise are strategic tax planning, business structuring and general taxation consultation. Scott has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting (CA), is a registered tax agent and holds a public practice certificate.

Alan King CPA (SMSF Specialist)
Director – Superannuation and Financial Advice

Alan joined CNS Partners in 2001 having collected broad business experience in Hospitality Management, Sports Administration, Event Management and Real Estate Management. In 2012 Alan decided to focus his attention on the SMSF sector and also began developing the Financial Advice business. He is still heavily involved with a core group of business clients as well as managing the specialist facets of SMSF’s and Financial Advice. Alan has a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Professional Accounting, Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), SMSF Specialisation, Diploma of Financial Planning, is a registered tax agent and holds a public practice certificate.

Elizabeth Henderson
Accountant – Business Services

Elizabeth is one of our longest serving employees. She started at the firm in July 1994, initially working on a casual basis after starting a family. Elizabeth is employed as a client service accountant, primarily involved in the preparation of financial accounts and Income tax returns for business entities. She is responsible for many of our larger clients and her experience gained over the last 28 years along with her client knowledge is invaluable. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Commerce.

Jim Briscoe CA
Accountant – Business Services

Jim joined us in January 2010. Jim graduated from the University of Queensland in 2012 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance major) and also has a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting (CA) & a Diploma of Financial Planning.

Rebecca Smith CA
Accountant – Business Services

Rebecca joined CNS Partners in January 2013 and works directly with Scott’s client base. She is involved in all aspects of the small business process, including preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals as well as taxation planning. Rebecca graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accountancy and has a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting (CA).

Bec Peterson
Accountant – SMSF and Business Services

Bec has been with us since October 2015, coming from an inner city firm where she gained experience in all aspects of small business accounting. She has chosen to specialise in SMSF’s and will also assist with the growth of the Financial Advice sector of the business. Bec graduated from Griffith University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Financial Planning and is on the way to completing her Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting.

Cathy Axiak CPA
Accountant – Business Services

Cathy started at the firm in March of 2008, after gathering more than 20 years’ experience with public practice accounting firms in Mackay, Roma and Brisbane. She has also worked as an internal accountant for a small business and as an SMSF administrator. Cathy is employed as a client services accountant, predominantly involved in preparing the financial statements and tax returns for our SME clients. She is also our in-house expert on Fringe Benefits Tax. Cathy’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Business, Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) and a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning.

Cindy Thompson
Accountant – Business Services

Cindy has been an integral part of our team since October 2011, when she joined us from another suburban accounting firm.  She is involved in the preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for companies and trusts, and SMSF administration.  Cindy has a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology and is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).

Kate Miller
Assistant Accountant

Kate has been with CNS Partners since July 2012 as one of our fulltime team members.  She performs a variety of duties, including preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for companies, partnerships, trusts and individuals.  Prior to relocating to Brisbane in 2012, Kate worked with a North Queensland based accounting firm for 7 years.  Kate has a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) and is a Registered BAS Agent.

Ann Smith
Administration

Ann commenced in March 2012 as the firm’s Administration Manager, coming from a similar role in another practice. Ann oversees the day to day operation of the firm, managing our Corporate Registers, attending to all electronic lodgements, client liaison and ensuring the smooth running of the office.

Tania Sargeant
Reception

Tania has been our ‘director of first impressions’ since March 2010.  Her role involves scheduling client meetings for the team, managing incoming and outgoing correspondence and administrative support.  Tania achieved a Certificate III business administration in 2007.
