Services

Concept Physio provides services to people from the Blue Mountains and beyond. The practice operates from a multidisciplinary health centre called Blaxland Health where Psychology and Clinical Social Work services are also available.

Facilities include a quiet treatment room and an open exercise area where group classes are held.

When you visit the practice you will be treated according to the principles of the McKenzie Method. The aim is to provide you with the treatment and education you need to improve in the shortest number of sessions possible (usually 3-5 treatments), and most importantly, to remain better – whether it be a long term problem or a more acute injury.

You will undergo a thorough assessment and will be encouraged to actively participate in formulating a treatment plan. You will be given tailored education regarding action you can take to help yourself with the issue, thus enabling you to feel a sense of control over your health. You will also be treated with appropriate and evidence-based modalities if necessary (stretch, strengthening, mobilisation).

Musculoskeletal conditions treated:

  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Headache and Migraine
  • Other conditions treated:

Elbow Pain

There are many causes of pain in or around the elbow. Common non-traumatic conditions are so-called ‘Tennis’ or ‘Golfers Elbow’ where activities such as gripping, writing and typing may become painful. Physiotherapy advice and treatment for elbow pain is particularly useful at the acute stage in order to encourage optimal healing and to help prevent the problem becoming chronic.

Knee Pain

Ensuring good muscle strength, length, timing and control is the number one treatment for most knee conditions including osteoarthritis.  If you do have to undergo surgery, full rehabilitation including exercise in water is highly recommended and a physiotherapist will be central in your rehabilitation process – helping you make the fullest recovery possible and getting you back into your sports or life activities when ready.

Ankle & Foot Pain

Common injuries include sprains of the ligaments on the outside of the ankle during sporting activities such as netball or basketball. Other problems may be due to inflammation or more chronic tendon problems at the back or sides of the ankle. At Concept Physio you will be assessed carefully and a treatment plan will be commenced that will allow your body to heal and recover fully from your injury. Later management will focus on rehabilitation of movement, strength and balance in order that you can return to everyday life and sports activities with confidence.

Shoulder Pain

Does your shoulder hurt at night and prevent you from sleeping? Are you unable to reach for the seatbelt in the car or reach your hand behind your back?

Shoulder pain is a common problem and physiotherapy treatments may include soft tissue massage, stretch, muscle retraining and postural taping. Treatment may focus on addressing specific muscle imbalance or poor posture that contributes to your pain.  You may also be advised on ergonomics at work or posture when driving or sitting.

Hip and Pelvic Pain

Pain around the hip and pelvis requires a careful assessment and treatment. Common issues include bursitis – or inflammation of the bursa at the side of the hip – and tendon or muscle problems in the buttock. This can lead to pain when laying on your side at night or when climbing stairs.

Other specific services:

McKenzie Approach for Spine and Periphery

Post-surgical Rehabilitation

Neurological Rehabilitation (including traumatic brain injury and stroke)

Physiotherapists are an essential part of the team of health professionals involved in recovery from acute neurological injury, or the management of chronic neurological condition such as Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis or Motor Neurone Disease.

Sally provides neurological rehabilitation services, both in rooms and in the community and enjoys working with her clients and their family and friends to promote their fullest recovery in the years following injury or diagnosis.

Home or community visits

Sally provides a ‘home visit’ service to those who cannot attend rooms or require treatment/assessment at other locations including home, nursing home, gym and pools throughout the Blue Mountains.

Reviews

“After 5 days of neck pain, I visited Sally and found some instant relief from her thorough diagnosis and treatment. More importantly, I now know exactly which movements/exercises will help to heal this over time. Highly recommended.”

“Sally is a great physio, she looked after me when I fell and hurt my knee and couldn’t walk without flinching with pain. Sally fixed my knee and in no time at all I was back doing my beloved bush walking.”
