Yoga Classes
What is Yoga?
It is a system of ancient practices that has been adapted for the Western modern lifestyle and is aimed at attaining physical, mental and emotional harmony / balance within the person. Connie teaches yoga based on the Satyananda Tradition, an integrated system of yoga which offers practical ways to manage stress and create an overall sense of wellbeing. There is a strong emphasis on personal experience and developing mind/body awareness throughout the classes which include physical postures, breathing and relaxation practices. Regular practice will stretch, strengthen and loosen the body, plus calm and focus the mind. It also encourages a yogic lifestyle. Please visit www.satyananda.net for more information.
Who can do Yoga?
Yoga classes are designed to meet the needs of those seeking a greater quality of life as yoga offers a way to bring all aspects of ourselves and our lives into balance and harmony, it is both relaxing and energising.
Yoga is available to everyone, you do not have to be young, fit or supple, Students are encourages to practice at their own pace and listen to the needs of their body.
What to expect from your yoga class
Yoga Postures (Asanas) are a gentle way of stretching, strengthening and toning your muscles and work on reducing tension held within the body. The physical postures are practiced slowly and synchronised with the breath. They also gently massage the internal organs, stimulate the nervous system and improve the circulation. You can develop more body awareness while experiencing what is happening within.
Breathing Practices (Pranayama) – Breath is much broader than mere respiration. The breath and its movements are intimately linked to the manifestation of emotions, thought and stress. We know that the breath can control the mind and it is your consciousness that is in charge of the breath. So breathing practices assist in calming the mind and settling the body while balancing the emotions. Concentration becomes more focussed and this helps to prepare the mind for relaxation and meditation.
Relaxation – Deep relaxation (Yoga Nidra) allows the body to rest so that natural healing can take place. Disease and mental stress can be relieved through the development of the body’s healing powers. Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of relaxing the whole body and mind, it is rejuvenating and promotes a sense of wellbeing.
A typical class in the Satyananda style includes an introductory short relaxation, physical postures, breathing practices, meditation, yoga nidra and perhaps a little chanting.
Through the regular practice of yoga a profound awareness is developed which in turn leads one towards the experience of peace and fulfilment in life.

“I attend Connie’s yoga class at Wylies Baths on Wednesdays every week. Her style of Hatha yoga suits me as it is the more conventional style of yoga practice and I certainly feel at the end of the class full of energy ,very relaxed and stretched.I can recommend her classes to anyone. Try it !
Connie also has over 20 years of experience in remedial massage, her massage therapy is also extremely recommendable and excellent value for the cost .Her studio is in a very quiet , calming and natural setting which only adds to the whole relaxing experience.”
“A wonderful experience. I was sore from too much running, and Connie smoothed out my tired legs, and got into all those knots and spasms I had developed. My better afterwards and ready to run again!”
