Services

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a deep tissue massage done by a trained massage therapist, to create the conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders. It is used to treat chronic muscular-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, bruising or any injury. Deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery and encourages more complete healing.

Remedial massage is also used for conditions created by lifestyle for example repetitive strain injury and back pain. It is designed to increase the flow of blood and lymph nodes, particularly in the injured areas.

It is often successful where other forms of treatment have failed.

Cupping

Massage cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that has been in use for thousands of years. Modern cupping massage combines massage techniques with “vacuum” therapy.

Although you may have seen or heard of heat being used to create the vacuum, there is no heat involved with our massage cupping. We use modern silicone cups for maximum safety and flexibility.

Before the massage we will discuss with you any trouble spots that you may have or any areas that require specific attention. We use the flexible cups to create a suction in areas of the body that are experiencing pain and stiffness. The cup draws the blood to the surface and by moving the underlying tissues, reduce restrictions in the muscles and fascia surrounding the soft tissue.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling involves multiple advances of a fine filament needle into the muscle in the region of a “Trigger Point’.

The aim of Dry Needling is to achieve a local twitch response to release muscle tension and pain.

Dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits.

The needle used is very thin and most subjects do not even feel it penetrate the skin. A healthy muscle feels very little discomfort with insertion of this needle. However if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or has active trigger points within it, the subject will feel a sensation like a muscle cramp -’the twitch response’. The patient also may feel a reproduction of “their” pain which is a helpful diagnostic indicator for the practitioner attempting to diagnose the cause of the patient’s symptoms. Patients soon learn to recognise and even welcome this sensation as it results in deactivating the trigger point, reducing pain and restoring normal length function to the involved muscle.

Pregnancy Massage

During pregnancy a woman’s body undergoes many changes, some of them stressful and uncomfortable. Massage is a perfect way to reduce stress and promote general well being.

  • Massage helps the mother’s body to eliminate waste products through the lymphatic and circulatory systems, which combat fatigue and helps the mother feel more energetic.
  • By aiding circulation, massage eases the load on mother’s heart and helps to keep her blood pressure in check.
  • Muscular discomforts, such as cramping, tightening, stiffness, tension, and knots can all be alleviated.
  • Massage helps carry away the lactic acid and other cellular waste products that build up and cause muscle fatigue.
  • Massage can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes mothers can experience.
  • Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts during pregnancy, such as backaches, a stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, edema, and sore, swollen ankles and feet.
  • Massage increases local and general blood circulation, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the cells of both the mother and fetus. This means greater vitality and less fatigue for mothers and better nourishment for her baby.
  • Massage stimulates glandular secretions, which helps stabilise hormone levels.
  • It relaxes tense muscles and tones loose muscles, and can also increase muscular flexibility. Flexibility will be most helpful during the last trimester and during the birth itself.
  • Massage helps to soothe and relax nervous tension, which helps the mother sleep more easily and deeply. Incidentally, doctors all agree that a relaxed mother will have a happier, healthier pregnancy and possibly an easier childbirth experience too.
  • Massage can be used during the birth to make it easier and more comfortable for the mother, and after the birth as well to help her regain her strength more quickly and ease postpartum stress.

Pregnancy massage is performed with the client laying on their side during your second and third trimesters supported with plenty of pillows. Generally you can lie on your tummy, back or sides for a massage during your first trimester.
