The Cooperative was formed in 1944 by a group of likeminded professional hairdressers, to deliver a range of products and services to benefit its members.

Whilst a lot has changed in that time, our core reason for existence, our manifesto, hasn’t changed and never will.

We exist for you who spend 100% of your working day standing up, for those that start early and finish late, for those of you that have to be a life coach, social worker and sometimes even a shoulder to cry on.

We are for those of you who are devoted to helping people look and feel their best.

We exist for you who are passionate, creative and artistic, we exist for you the hairdresser, beautician and the make up artist.

We are fanatical about helping you become the best you can be, bringing you the most innovative solutions, tools, products and education to help you get to the top of your game and to stay there.

We’re here to make you profit because we are owned by you.

The profits we make line your pockets not an owners, it is invested right back into you, our members.

Membership is open to all suitably qualified hairdressers and beauticians. A minimum 25 one dollar shares entitles you to receive a range of benefits not available elsewhere in the industry including an annual purchase rebate, annual dividends, discount on training and education, special member only insurance for home and business and much more.

Our Co-operative is controlled by a Board of Directors and, unlike other company structures, every member has an equal vote. Directors are appointed for a two year term and each year those directors retiring are subject to a re-election at the February Annual General Meeting. Any member may nominate for election to the Board.

The main purpose of Co-operatives is to continually offer benefits in goods and / or services to its members. Support to the trade through sponsorship of state and country hair and beauty competitions, rebates, dividends and discount on products and services are all part of the Co-op story.

The philosophy of the Co-op remains unchanged today. Owned by hairdressers for hairdressers, the Co-op is unique in the industry, committed to delivering prices and services at the best possible level for the benefit of all members.

Hair Co-op supply the very latest in products and brands, and offer informative education and training to the hair and beauty industry.

“7 years ago, I paid $25 to become a “shareholder” Still have my same membership card, now they want another $25 to become a shareholder again, due to im guessing ownership of business changing! What a great scam! Pay $25 to become a shareholder, no return on my investment and now I have to pay another $25 to recieve the discount i should already be recieving! Absolute bullshit and NOT how you run a business! Pay the $25 or spend $100 to get what i’ve already paid for for free!! Pull your head out your ass!”
