Welcome to HANDS from HEAVEN!

HANDS from HEAVEN is a Remedial Massage Clinic in the heart of Stafford, Brisbane 4053.

We have been open in Pateena Street for over 10 years now, and have solidly cemented ourselves into our community.

Our Team has changed a bit over the years, but our commitment to our community has not, and we very proud to be a 7 Day Clinic.

We open at 8am every day, and currently close at 7pm on most nights … 9pm on Tuesday & Thursday!

Between the 4 of us, we total more than 140 hours of Available Treatment Time EVERY WEEK !

We have an Electronic and ONLINE Appointment Diary that operates in real-time, showing you what is available NOW.

This allows you to log-in (through this website – using your email and a password) and view all available appointments so you can choose a time that suits you best … with no more backwards-and-forwards telephone-tag or email-tag.

Please remember that every Therapist that works here has nationally recognized and accredited qualifications, and is focused on providing quality treatments to achieve the outcome most important to you – our valued client!

Our philosophy on massage is that every physical body is different and has individual needs.

What works well for one may not necessarily work so well for the next. We encourage open and clear communication between Client and Therapist during your massage to help us provide what you need today.

In clinic we like to promote an atmosphere that is professional but relaxed. Professional so that everyone understands that we are serious about our business and want to provide the best treatment possible to/for you, but relaxed enough to feel comfortable.

We are part of the community but most importantly we are here for our community, and this means we try very hard to be available when you need and/or want us.

We are open 7 days every week from as early as 8am till as late as 7pm – and even 9pm on some nights … We are also available on most Public Holidays – with reduced hours of course, because we have families too.

This all supports our focus to provide our services at times that give everyone an opportunity to come and experience quality Remedial Massage.

A full description of our opening hours is available on the ‘Contact Us’ page of this website, and this information is updated regularly to reflect exactly what is happening in clinic.

Please KNOW that you can always trust what you find on the website – and more importantly, on our Online Appointment System (The Power Diary).

Our pricing structure is competitively affordable as well, and includes discounted rates for Pensioners, Seniors, Full-time Students, and anyone holding a current Centrelink Health-care or Pension Card. Of course, evidence of your concession (ie: the card) must be able to be produced on request.

We have Rewards Programs in place that provide reward to you (our clients) for your support and patronage.

More details about these programs can be found on the ‘Rewards Programs’ page of this website. Essentially the Loyalty Reward gives you a $10 Discount for maintaining regular treatments, and the Referral Reward gives you a free massage for sending your family & friends our way. Check them out – it is surprisingly easy to save money while looking after yourself!

Further, all our therapists are current and financial members of appropriate Massage Associations which means you can claim a rebate for our treatments with your health fund – depending on your personal level of coverage. To make claiming easier for you as well, we are HICAPS capable.

This means that if you belong to a health fund that includes Remedial Massage on their HICAPS schedule you can swipe your card here and claim electronically and immediately.

A brief History of HANDS from HEAVEN

My name is Tony and HANDS from HEAVEN is my Remedial Massage business.

I used to work in an administrative position in the Public Service, but at 32 I decided to change careers and do something I wanted to do rather than stay somewhere I didn’t want to be.

I studied a 2 year Diploma of Remedial Therapies at the Australian College of Natural Medicine (ACNM) in Brisbane, and established HANDS from HEAVEN in March 2001. At that time I was a fresh graduate, and keen to make my mark on the Remedial Massage Industry.

Being a new graduate with limited experience I chose to spend the first 5 years working in other people’s clinics gathering experience – working on varied client bases and learning from various other Health Care Professionals.

Through this time I worked alongside Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Personal Trainers, and of course other Remedial Massage Therapists.

I even operated a small private clinic within the grounds of the Queensland University of Technology (Kelvin Grove campus) providing Remedial Massage for the Dance Students and instilling in them the philosophy of caring for their tool-of-trade (their body) to enhance and support their performance career.

In 2006 I took seven months off to travel the world with my partner – 24 countries in 28 weeks … what a trip to re-charge my batteries!

In January 2007 I established my very first public clinic here in Stafford. At the same time as opening my clinic, I also re-enrolled at ACNM to upgrade my qualification to the Bachelor of Health Science (Musculoskeletal Therapy) … another 2 years of Full-time study – coinciding with building a new clinic. After graduating my degree I focused on building my clinic/business.

During these years I always had at least one other therapist working here with me, and as a team we have been able to build a strong and reliable service for our community.

Most of our clients live locally, but people will travel for quality treatment and we can boast a broad catchment area … some of our clients come from as far away as Redcliffe, even some from Toowoomba!

Between June 2013 & January 2015 I was lecturing at the Australasian College of Natural Therapies (ACNT), teaching technique classes and Supervising Student Clinics for both the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and Diploma of Remedial Massage courses.

Kat joined my Team back in May 2014 and Andy joined my team back in February 2015 … I taught both of them at ACNT when they were students – together we made a very enthusiastic and talented Therapy Team, providing our best for our community!

On 15 June 2016 I joined the Training Team at the Sage Institute of Massage, and currently teach classes in the new & revised Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52015).

As business continues to be strong, and as I returned to teach at Sage in June 2016, we needed extra help to provide what our community has come to expect from us – and so Angela joined our team in September 2016.

We continue to enjoy a busy clinic, building a stronger business along the way. We can proudly boast attracting an average of 7+ New Clients EVERY WEEK, and have maintained this average consistently since opening in January 2007! We love what we do and how we can help you feel, and this drives us to always provide the best Remedial Massage Treatments we can … and this is clearly reflected in the continually growing strength of business here at HANDS from HEAVEN.

We really look forward to seeing you soon, and helping YOU feel the best you have felt in a long time.

Styles of Massage available here at HANDS from HEAVEN

All therapists contracted here at HANDS from HEAVEN have a Diploma of Remedial Massage as minimum qualification. T

his ensures that they are all formally and professionally qualified to perform multiple styles of massage.

We like to tailor every massage to the individual to meet their specific needs today, and sometimes that means utilizing more than 1 style or technique during your massage.

Whatever works best for you is what we will deliver, ensuring best value for you! The choice is yours to mix-and-match between these styles …

We always tailor every treatment to satisfy what you need – and try to give you everything you want – when you come to clinic … but please don’t leave it go too long between massages
because we may not be able to do everything in one session if you do …

Deep Tissue – For postural balancing & realignment.

Deep Tissue Massage uses slow strokes that can be considered very similar to Swedish strokes. As the name implies, the strokes are applied with greater pressure to deeper layers of musculature than Swedish massage. This technique could be viewed as the connecting link between Swedish and Sports massage.
For people who recognize that they have developed poor postural habits, and that their poor posture may be causing aches & pains or headaches, Deep Tissue Massage might be the answer for them.

Treating the deeper layers of musculature, coupled with regular stretching, can re-sculpt your posture and help you feel the best you’ve felt in a long time.

Sports Massage – For pre or post event and injury management for optimum performance and recovery.

Sports Massage is the application of purposefully timed massage techniques on or for specific muscles or muscle groups.

This style of massage can reduce muscular soreness and improve recovery time; provide prevention of and/or treatment for athletic injuries; and enhance athletic performance.

Treatment is usually muscle specific and always individually tailored to your sport and/or personal needs.

Whether you identify as a serious athlete, someone who enjoys social games of sport, or someone who enjoys an active approach to health and fitness, this style of massage can help you stay on top of your game.

Everyone services their car regularly to maintain peak performance, so why not adopt the same attitude with your most vital asset … your body!

Swedish Massage – For pure relaxation and stress management.

Swedish Massage is the basic relaxation technique named after the Swedish physiologist and gymnastics instructor who devised the strokes.

It incorporates long, smooth, flowing strokes to promote general relaxation. Due to the style of this massage, the strokes target the superficial musculature mainly.

This style of massage could be seen as the corner stone upon which the industry of Remedial Massage was built, because this is the basic style of massage from which most (if not all) other techniques were based.

Essentially the difference between Swedish and any other technique in massage is the depth of pressure and the intent of the massage (relaxation, increasing flexibility, correcting postural habits, etc).

Trigger Point Release – to release those stubborn muscular knots.

Trigger points are specific spots in muscle tissue that can feel like a knot in the muscle fibres. They are usually very tender and sensitive to touch, and are usually accompanied by recognised pain referral patterns.

If left untreated they can multiply or spread to surrounding muscle tissue and/or give rise to reasonable movement restriction.

Usually the release of trigger points would be performed during either a Deep Tissue or Sports Technique massage as they are found or identified, but it can also be the main focus of your treatment.

Depending on the severity and/or number of trigger points identified during your massage, they may not all be able to be released or resolved at 1 appointment.

Cupping – To stimulate circulation and stretch superficial fascia.

Cupping has its origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture, but is a very useful tool in Remedial Massage as well.

I like to express 2 philosophies with regard to Cupping, and let you decide which aligns with your own belief system.

According to TCM cupping stimulates the flow of Chi (your body’s life force energy) through your body along the recognised meridians that most people can relate to acupuncture.

The philosophy broadly translates to – release the energy block, release the pain and dysfunction. The bruise-like markings that can result are said to be the ‘bad chi’ being drawn from your tissue.

Following a more Western philosophy, the suction of your skin and tissue into the cup provides stretching of local and superficial fascia and muscle fibres.

It also has the effect of drawing blood into the immediate tissue, stimulating the removal of cellular metabolic waste from the local muscle tissue.

Bruise-like markings may result from cupping, but because they are from suction pressure as opposed to impact injury, they should dissipate in a few days.

Cupping can be a part of your massage or the main focus of your massage. Essentially Cupping uses the direct opposite technique from usual massage strokes (suction V’s compression) for a very similar end result, and many people find using both techniques during a massage can bring better results for them than either technique used singularly.

Manual Lymphatic Drain Massage (MLD) –
to assist effective detoxification programs/diets, or reduce fluid retention.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage can be surprising. Because the Lymphatic System is very superficial in the body (lying immediately under the skin) the strokes are applied with a very light touch and always in the direction of lymph flow.

A combination of essential oils can be blended especially for your personal treatment, but if you prefer unblended carrier oil only that is fine.

Unlike the Cardiovascular System that is pumped by the heart, the Lymphatic System is stimulated by muscular contraction and respiration.

In most individuals the activity of general day-to-day living is sufficient for a healthy lymphatic system, but occasionally manual lymph drain massage is appropriate.

This would most commonly be after surgeries to reduce possible swelling, but could also be if you are following a detoxification diet.

Reflexology – For those who prefer a gentler, more subtle approach to an improved and healtier lifestyle.

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are areas in the hands and feet, which correspond to specific glands, organs and areas of the rest of the body.

Using deep finger or thumb pressure to reflex specific areas of your hands or feet, reflexology can normalize functions in your body generally.

While there are many styles of Reflexology practiced, we currently only offer the original Ingham Method in this clinic.

Reflexology is a very subtle therapy that most people find very relaxing, and the therapeutic benefits may be a little difficult to recognize at first.
