Handsom in Fitzroy, Melbourne, VIC is categorized under Clothing Stores.

HANDSOM was founded in late 2009 by British couple Sam Rush and Henry Allum. Combining the two designers backgrounds in fashion and product design, each collection balances contemporary design, with considered functionality, and a focus on the everyday.

Since its inception, the brand has evolved to develop a signature look that is understated yet confident, which has steadily and quietly gained a following both locally and internationally.

The first HANDSOM store opened its doors in Melbourne, in October 2012. It is from here that the brand is based, with headquarters and design studio situated above the store.

Contemporary and timeless – the HANDSOM brand is trend aware, not trend driven; it stands for clean design, and unpretentious fashion – summed up quite simply by the brand’s mantra: “We make nice clothes.”

OUR FACTORIES & PROCESSES

At HANDSOM. we proudly produce our garments in a family-owned and operated factory based between Hong Kong and South China, who we have been working with since 2010, and have a very close relationship with.

Our fabrics are predominantly sourced from Japan, Korea, Europe and Hong Kong, through a handful of reputable mills with whom we have also been working with for a number of years.

Our garments are packaged in recyclable packaging, and where possible we ship via sea cargo to reduce our carbon footprint.

Ethics are very important to us and our factory, and as such our factory participates in an annual SMETA audit, which focuses on labour standards, health and safety, the environment, and business ethics. Our factory has a 100% pass rate.

All factory employees are skilled professionals, who are paid a good wage, and work in a clean, spacious and well lit environment.

Holidays and sick pay are in accordance with government laws, and in addition to this our factory provides insurance cover for all its employees.

Employees hold regular meetings, and an elected representative communicates any feedback or issues to management to be addressed.

Where possible we aim to use organic and/or recycled fabrics, and incorporate sustainable materials such as bamboo and lyocell (in the form of Tencel) into our collections.

We use non-toxic dyes and eco-friendly printing techniques.

Our factory aims to minimise its impact on the environment by using only recyclable packaging, and unavoidable waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Our knitwear is made from pure merino wool and/or wool-cashmere blends. These yarns come from Mongolia and are sustainably farmed. We do not incorporate the use animal skins or furs into the production of our clothing.

If you have any further questions regarding our production processes, please get in touch.
