Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine which recognises the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, connective tissue, circulation and internal organs function as a unit.
An osteopathic consultation at this clinic is one-on-one with your practitioner and will take between 30-45 minutes. The treatment will involve taking a thorough medical & injury history, assessment of the injury, diagnosis and treatment.
Hands on osteopathic treatment could involve one or more of the following techniques:
• soft tissue massage
• stretching (MET)
• joint manipulation
• osteopathy in the cranial field
• dry needling
Your osteopath will work with you to:
• reduce muscular tension, inflammation and nerve irritation
• improve joint mobility
• reduce the duration of painful episodes
• offer advice on posture, exercises and stretching
• help prevent future episodes.
Osteopaths can be visited without a referral from a GP and are trained to know the difference between uncomplicated pain and pain requiring referral to specialist care.
In Australia, all osteopaths complete a minimum of five years university training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis and osteopathic techniques. They are also trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. These university graduates hold either a double Bachelor or Masters qualification.
Osteopaths are required, by law, to maintain ongoing professional development and education every year to stay in practice. In Australia, all osteopaths are required to be government registered practitioners.
Reviews
“Excellent practitioners and treatments. I would not be upright and mobile today if it wasn’t for the osteopathic and massage treatments provided by the team. Highly recommended!”
