Who We Are

Hot Water Comedy Club is Liverpool’s only purpose built comedy venue and currently holds fantastic live comedy 7 nights a week making is LIverpool’s biggest & best comedy promoters. We have also branched out to Manchester and are bringing shows to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in 2017 along with regular shows across The Wirral.

Hot Water Comedy is an independent comedy club fully co-owned by brothers Binty & Paul.

Our resident compere Paul Smith has been there from the very beginning and is a big part of the club and is one of the finest MC’s is the country.

Where We Began

Hot Water Comedy Club started back in 2010 with a weekly Sunday night show (which is still going strong!) that was held inside a popular city centre nightclub before it properly opened. Looking back, it probably weren’t the best venue for live comedy but it did work and we had some incredible nights there as well as out first ever ‘Comedian of the Year’ final which had over 200 in attendance and was a pretty big deal in Liverpool that year (Adam Rowe won btw). We slowly starting adding more nights of live comedy introducing professional nights which grew very quickly.

A year and a half down the line and we were ready for a step up and found a lovely upstairs venue in Liverpool at The Crown Hotel. This was an incredible room for live comedy and we enjoyed shows every Friday, Saturday & Sunday, regularly packing the 100 seater room out. This was a particularly popular venue for the real ale drinkers amongst our audience members who could pick up a great a pint for less than £2 (unheard of in the city centre!).

2 years on and regularly selling out shows each week we decided as a club that we needed a bigger venue. That’s were the Holiday Inn came up. We’d been holding NYE shows for the past 2 years in this venue and the shows were incredible so we decided to pack up and cross Lime Street to a bigger better venue. The capacity in the larger room was 200 so was much more suited for our busier shows and we enjoyed 3 fabulous years there holding shows 3 nights a week. Some absolutely massive comedy names have performed here over the years including Gary Delaney, Alun Cochrane, Glenn Wool, Jo Caulfield plus many, many more. During this time we also introduced our Wednesday night at one of the countries finest rooms for comedy in the basement at The Jacaranda Club (home of The Beatles first ever live performance). This show had a massive cult following and the shows quickly gained a reputation for being an absolute favourite for comedians to play. Soon after our Wednesday’s were introduced we added a Monday night at this venue solely used for 2 months of the year for Edinburgh Preview shows. These were insanely popular and regularly completely sold out.

6 years on from our very first gig we’re now at a stage where we are looking for bigger and better things. We have opened Liverpool’s 1st multi purpose comedy club, bar & restaurant and now hold live comedy 7 nights a week as well as regular daytime shows along with early shows before our main night time events. Our purpose built 160 seater performance space is one of the finest in the country and due to extreme demand we regularly have an early and late show for our weekend events. We offer photography studio space to up and coming performers as well as podcast booths and have regular comedy courses and writing sessions to help support raw, new comedy (something we’ve always been passionate about).

Who Will Be Performing

As we offer live comedy 7 days a week you’ll see a massive range of comedy across our various shows. Our weekend shows taking place every Friday & Saturday night are our flagship ‘Triple Headline’ shows. These are the ones that will only ever feature the finest headliners & TV names from across the UK and beyond. Our other weekly shows range from new act nightsto new material along with lots of other great shows. It’s not unknown to have absolutely massive TV names to be added to our new material nights to test out some new bits for a show coming up. They won’t always be listed on our website though!

We’ve hosted some fantastic comedians recently including Russell Kane, Paul Sinha, Glenn Wool, Gary Delaney, Jo Caulfield + many more.

Supporting New Comedy

This is something we pride ourselves on as we strongly believe that providing the platform for new comedy has always been very important for the comedy industry.

Our very first weekly show which started back in 2010 was our new comedian night which still takes place every Sunday and is held in very high regard as one of the best places for brand new comedians to start out.

Over the years we’ve had 100’s of comedians taking to the stage for their very first gigs in front of our regular supporting audience. Many from the earlier years can now be found performing at some of the biggest clubs up and down the country every week.

We also run our very own range of comedy courses ranging from complete beginners to more advanced courses. Over the years we’ve had lots of our graduates carry on and start out into a career in comedy.

Our weekly writing sessions along with our incredibly popular new material nights are invaluable to the comedy industry and support the growth of brand new raw stand up comedy.

Community

We work closely with some charities close to our heart and regularly hold charity events and provide prizes for raffles and to raise money for some fantastic causes.

How long is a piece is string?

We’re an ambitious bunch and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t want to have our very own comedy club in major cities up and down the country!

We just want to keep making you all laugh and will continue bringing the finest comedians to our lovely stage week in week out.

“Every member of staff was so lovely and friendly. Greeted pleasantly as we entered, bar staff were lovely, drinks were cheap, the decor was trendy and a free night of comedy what more could you ask for!
Only downside was the chairs and rows being uncomfortably close together in the room, my partners long legs were quite squished, and the rowdy drunk man who was heckling (not in a nasty way, he was obviously enjoying himself a bit too much) didnt shut up all night.
