Services

Physiotherapy Service

Physiotherapy is a profession in the clinical health science sector that aims to assess, diagnose, treat and prevent disease, injury, dysfunction and deformity through physical means.

Physiotherapists gain an expertise in anatomy and physiology which allows them to use hands-on and hands-off methods to treat people with a variety of health conditions.

Their treatment is specialized in improving movement and function without the use of pharmaceutical products or surgery.

Physiotherapists assist with overcoming movement disorders which may have been congenital, attained through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing.

Physiotherapy services provided by Hyperdome Physiotherapy Centre include hands-on physiotherapy methods such as mobilisation, manipulation, massage, muscle energy techniques, Western Acupuncture and Dry Needling and Shockwave Therapy.

We also provide hands-off physiotherapy methods including Gait Scan Analysis, Posture Pro Analysis, Hydrotherapy, Exercise Prescription and Gym Rehabilitation.

Western Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture is a form of therapy in which fine, sterile, single-use needles are inserted into specific points in order to create neurophysiologic reactions in the body and stimulate a healing effect.

Acupuncture helps to relieve pain and improve circulation.

Scientifically, acupuncture has been found to activate the opioid system in the brain that responds to pain and stimulates nerves that transmits electrical impulses to the spinal cord and brain.

Acupuncture is considered to be a safe and effective treatment option for a variety of conditions such as chronic pain, headaches, neck and joint pain, fibromyalgia and menstrual cramps.

Dry needling is a more invasive procedure commonly used to treat musculoskeletal problems and issues associated with chronic nerve pain.

Dry needling involves the insertion of a fine, sterile, single-use needle into a ‘knot’ or ‘trigger point’ within muscle, ligament or tendon, causing skeletal muscle fiber contraction and spasm.

Common problems treated with dry needling include myofascial pain syndrome, headaches, tennis or golfers elbow, soft tissue sporting injuries and lower back pain.

Exercise Prescription & Gym Rehabilitation

Exercise Prescription or Gym Rehabilitation refers to a specific plan of fitness-related activities, developed by our physiotherapists, that is designed for the management of your particular condition.

Exercise prescription is used to assist in the management of conditions such as poor core stability, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and neurological disorders involving pain or soft tissue injury and pre and post-surgical deconditioning.

Exercise prescription is also commonly used to encourage desired musculoskeletal adaptations required for sport or individual growth.

When prescribing exercises our physiotherapists will consider your current lifestyle, interests, type of exercise required, amount of workload (duration/frequency) and intensity needed to make a change, and any precautions that need to be taken.

A Gym Rehabilitation program is then suggested for those patients who are interested in maintaining and improving their fitness or requiring long-term self-management strategies.

Fitness programs prescribed by a Physiotherapist will ensure that the client avoids injury and works at an appropriate level.

Gait Scan Service

GaitScan is a pressure based computer hardware and software system that helps our physiotherapists to assess and analyse your feet.

The system is designed to assist in detecting abnormal foot function which may be affecting the alignment and movement of your feet or other parts of your body.

The Gaitscan system records a static (standing still) and dynamic (walking or running across the pressure plate) picture of your foot mechanics and maps your foot pressure before generating a report.

The report can be used to determine if the pain you are experiencing is due to abnormal foot function and whether you would benefit from wearing custom made foot orthotics.

If orthotics are needed the data is sent to the lab and a custom made orthotic is manufactured specifically for your feet.

Hydrotherapy & Gym Programs

Hydrotherapy combines traditional physiotherapy skills with the properties of warm water to relieve pain, gain relaxation, improve joint range, muscles strength and overall stability.

It is conducted in an indoor pool heated to between 31-33C degrees. It involves hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisations, soft tissue manipulation and stretching of neural and muscular tissue, as well as using the buoyancy of water to either assist or resist movement.

This helps to improve your ability to cope with everyday activities, manage your individual problems and improve your posture and fitness level.

Our qualified and experienced physiotherapists supervise the 45 minute session and assist you in progressing your specific exercises as your fitness and movement improves.

Posture Pro Service

Posture Pro is a posture analysis system used to analyse digital posture images.

The system generates a posture number which calculates the amount your posture deviates from neutral. It highlights additional physical stresses on the spine, pelvis and other joints.

The most common problems, such as swayback and slouching, are related to increased use of computers, carrying heavy bags, wearing high heels and tight restrictive clothing.

Posture Pro assists our physiotherapists in identifying problem areas, allowing a holistic approach to help you to correct misalignments/posture imbalance. This has significant benefits for your overall health and well-being.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy uses radial shockwaves to trigger biological effects leading to faster and permanent healing and regeneration of body tissues.

The radial shockwave carries high energy into the body’s painful areas through a transmitter at the end of an applicator via compressed air.

The energy transmitted can promote repair and regeneration in bones, tendons, muscles and other soft tissues.

It is used for sub-acute, sub-chronic and chronic conditions such as myofascial trigger points and tendinopathies (plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy).

It can also improve activation of muscle and connective tissue improving circulation and muscle tone.

It is recommended that patients trial at least 6-8 sessions of shockwave therapy with approximately 4 days in between sessions to see a good result.

Many patients notice a difference after just one session reporting benefits such as reduced pain, improved tissue healing, improved blood flow and reduced muscle spasm in painful areas.

Women’s and Men’s Health Physiotherapy

At Hyperdome Physiotherapy Centre we offer support for Women’s and Men’s health issues such as incontinence, bed wetting, prostate and bladder control, painful bladder, pregnancy (ante and postnatal), menopause and pelvic floor dysfunction.

In addition we treat bowel disorders such as constipation and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Deborah Hogg, our Principle Physiotherapist, has specialised in treating various Women’s and Men’s Health issues.

TMJ (Jaw) Physiotherapy

Not very many people realise that physiotherapists can work with people suffering from Temporomandibular Joint (The Jaw or TMJ) pain and dysfunction. Our Principle Physiotherapist, Deborah Hogg, is specialised in head, neck and jaw physiotherapy.

The temporomandibular joint allows us to open and close our jaw and is important for talking, eating and facial movements. Pain and dysfunction including clicking, locking, grinding and deviation of the jaw is not normal and can be improved through physiotherapy.
