About Us

Ideal Massage was founded by Daniel Thomas in January 2013.

Our mission ‘to support clients to achieve optimal health outcomes through massage and complementary therapy’.

At Ideal Massage we take the time to understand our client’s health situation, and desired health and wellness outcomes. We offer a range of massage therapies including tailored massage therapy programs, to suit each individual’s needs – from Deep tissue, stretching and trigger point work to kneading and folding muscles through to the gentle flow of a full relaxation massage. A range of complementary therapies are also offered for those who seek or respond well to energetic treatments. We believe that through different healing approaches the body can heal and repair itself faster.

Services

Swedish ‘Relaxation’ massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. Swedish massage is the original massage technique, developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling, at the University of Stockholm in 1812.

Swedish massage uses a firm but gentle pressure. The therapy involves a sequence of movements, working superficially and then deeper into the tissue layers to:

  • improve circulation
  • improve flexibility
  • ease muscle aches and tension; and
  • promotes relaxation

Deep Tissue Massage helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is the manipulation of deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to:

  • enhance function
  • aid in the healing process
  • decrease muscle reflex activity
  • inhibit motor-neuron excitability

Remedial massage is focused upon both consultation and treatment. In the sports world remedial massage is used proactively to prevent injury.  A thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology means that the source of pain can be pin-pointed and then treated appropriately.

Key benefits of remedial massage include:

·       stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed;

·       improvement to the health of the cells and the repairing of tissues

·       calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and

·       toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility, easing stiffness and tension.

Sports massage is not limited to athletes! It is beneficial for anyone who seeks a rapid result.  Sports massage therapy combines remedial, general and deep tissue manipulation with various forms of stretching techniques to improve muscle health and performance. The treatment is direct and results are experienced quite quickly. It is a very safe, non-invasive therapy.

Beneficial in the treatment of:

  • Sports injury and strain
  • Dance injury and strain
  • Post-operative trauma
  • Arthritis
  • Constipation and Lymphatic conditions
  • Fibrositis
  • Spondylitis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Muscular cramps
  • Whiplash
  • Muscular atrophy

Tailored Massage Therapy Programs

A personalised massage therapy program can be tailored to your specific needs.

Great for athletes of any age, whether you are a professional athlete or dancer, training for a competition or event, a regular gym goer, work in an area that has great demands on your body, are pregnant, have a chronic condition or require a rehabilitation or maintenance plan, or have an avid leisure physical activity or interest such as walking or hiking.

These programs help you achieve and maintain optimal fitness and performance taking into consideration:

  • your type of physical activity
  • the level of activity
  • your activity regime – training, competition cycle
  • your goals
  • your physical history and any areas of strength and weakness
  • your time and budget restrictions

The benefits are far-reaching and should not be underestimated. Overall it reduces the risk of injury and speeds up recovery times.

For example, the below plan would suit an athlete, sportsperson;

Pre Event – One or two days before competition.

The aim is to enhance muscular tone and flexibility.

Post Event – One or two days after competition.

The aim is to create a prolonged state of reduced muscular tension and to reduce the delayed onset muscle soreness.

·       Training and Conditioning – Ongoing basis

The aim is to help the athlete train more consistently without injury.

Restoration and Rehabilitation

The aim is to help an acute problem, or keep a chronic problem from becoming acute. Proper rehabilitation helps athletes to be able to return to the game more quickly and with less discomfort.

Pre-Natal Massage is an integrated therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be, which in turn nurtures the new life that grows within her.

A woman’s body is challenged, changed and stressed in many different ways associated with fertility treatment, as well as the various phases of pregnancy through to the childbearing experience and also post-natal.

Massage therapy can reduce discomforts and enhance physiological and emotional wellbeing. Studies have demonstrated that massage reduces stress hormones in the body. Massage therapy is beneficial for both mother and baby.

Complementary Therapies:

Ear Candling is a pleasant non-invasive treatment that can help to promote an enhanced state of health. It is an extremely relaxing treatment in its own right but used primarily to relieve conditions and benefits conditions in the:

  • Ear area, such as tinnitus, earaches, excessive earwax, and glue ear.
  • Head area, such as colds, hay fever, headaches, sinus problems and snoring.

Ear candles have been used for centuries to create a sense of well-being and hold a respected place in traditional medicine around the globe.  Ear Candling is also known as ear coning, this gentle technique uses a lighted wax cone to generate heat, which cleanses bacteria and other impurities from the ear. It is also beneficial for those with restricted use or control of their arms such as the elderly and disabled.

Reiki Healing   Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Life Force Energy’. Reiki healing is based on the belief that an unseen ‘life force energy’ flows through us and all living things. If one’s ‘life force energy’ is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy, however if it becomes low, we are more likely to become sick or suffer stress.

Reiki increases the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is ideal for restoring optimum balance and harmony to all levels of our being and works to alleviate dis-ease within our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies by clearing away the blocks and interferences that separate us from our wholeness.  Reiki brings a deep peace and serenity to the mind and emotions, facilitating the release of negative thought programmes and destructive emotional patterns which no longer serve our highest good.

Reiki healing is applied via the ‘laying-on of hands’. The Reiki practitioner transfers Reiki healing energy by placing their hands on the recipient’s corresponding chakra energy centres, meridians and organs.  No movement is required by the recipient when giving a treatment and it is not necessary to remove clothing or to fix the mind in deep focus to achieve its healing effects.

Crystal Therapy is an ancient art of ‘laying-on of stones’. Crystals bring colour and light into the aura and into the physical body via the chakra system and the subtle layers of the body through the crystals’ vibration.

Crystals are laid on the body over an individual’s chakra energy centres. Each chakra centre connects with an area of the body including its organs and glands.  Each chakra also resonates to a particular colour, so by laying a stone of that colour over the chakra, the chakras open, align and blend with one another. When the chakras are balanced, the physical body is able to innately heal and revive itself.

Crystals are useful for balancing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. They act as a stabiliser to the entire system – lifting the spirits of the depressed, calming the nerves of the agitated.
