Today we chat with Aneta Rycombel of Janin Australia in our Designers Corner section giving you an insight into the workings of the Label.Who is Janin Australia
Is a Gold Coast women’s wear label by Aneta Rycombel. It’s fun, feminine label with a great summer vibe. Aneta has blended her sleek European styling with a relaxed Gold Coast style to create comfortable and easy to wear dresses.
Where are you from and where are you now based?
I am originally from Poland and settled in Australia eight years ago. I was working for a cruise liner travelling the world and arrived in Perth and didn’t want to leave. I’ve always loved creating and fashion so I was drawn to the Gold Coast to study fashion and base my design business here. I eventually settled in Burleigh Heads and don’t plan to ever leave.
When and what led you to the realisation you wanted to start designing …?
Becoming a fashion designer was an unconscious thing, my life has been a journey and this has brought me here. It’s funny as I haven’t realized that for a very long time. But once my life brought me to that point, than I looked back into my past and it was like someone had opened my eyes.
What was the first item you designed…?
I have always been drawing clothes from when I was very little. During the boring classes at school while other girls draw flowers or random shapes I would be drawing clothes.
Being part of a small team can often see a person having to play many different roles, and this photoshoot saw Whim’s Editor acting as a photographer for the day and Whim’s Intern getting in front of the lens as a model – and doing a brilliant job of it too!
As recently-named ambassadors for Gold Coast-based label JANIN Australia, we wanted to take advantage of the beautifully sunny weather of late and showcase one of our favourite dresses from the label – the stunning Ellia Skyflower dress. The lush green garden provided a perfect backdrop for the blue and white floral design of the dress, and we had plenty of fun dressing it up with all of our favourite accessories, including white lace, Lucinda’s pastel purple Converse sneakers, flower-adorned sunglasses and of course, a flower crown!
