TENS

The word TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and is a highly effective form of pain relief during labour using electrical impulses.

WHAT IS TENS?

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) has been used widely for more than 30 years for pain relief, and more recently, a stimulator designed specifically for labour. Using the stimulator during labour has been found to shorten the duration of the first stage of labour by allowing you to stay relaxed in your own familiar surroundings at home for longer. The level of pain of the contractions is also significantly reduced. Recovery after delivery has been found to be faster and importantly, – drug free
