Michael Wolff Salons

Michael Wolff’s trademark is personalized service. A visit to his Potts Point salon is an immersive experience as everything is done by Michael himself – colour, cut, shampooing, blowdrying, styling and makeup too, if required. “I’m not a hairdresser that would keep a record card,” he explains. “It’s all about doing what the hair needs, more or less. I sit down with the customer, and I analyze the hair. For me, it’s about being open-minded and having a very cool aesthetic.”

Michael’s inspiration comes from the street, old movies and fine art. He’s a passionate collector of contemporary art. “My whole world has to be surrounded with beautiful people and beautiful things – every day of my life!” He’s known for his sensitivity with colour, strong cutting and ready-to-wear hair. “Lifestyle hair,” he calls it. He believes a good cut doesn’t necessarily need to be blow dried.

Having honed his craft over three decades, Michael is now at the top of his game. He started out as an apprentice in regional Victoria, moved on to Perth, and then spent years in London working for West End salons and session stylist for magazines, and as a global trainer for famous brand Cobella. Here in Sydney, as well as running a busy salon, he collaborates with Australia’s best photographers for publications including Harpers Bazaar, Oyster, Cream, L’Officiel, Sunday Magazine, Russh, Black, Vogue, Marie Claire. He also produces beautiful hair for leading fashion designers – Akira, Christopher Esber, Toni Maticevski, Rachael Ruddick and others.

Michael is appreciated for his flawless work, individual style and innate flair for fashion and trends. Landmark moments include launching androgynous model Andrej Pejic.
