About Michelle

Michelle Eccleston holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage, and is a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society. Being a member of a professional body ensures that we are continually improving and adding to our professional skills.

After a successful career as an Accountant, Michelle moved her energy and focus into helping others. As most of us know the corporate world can be a very demanding and stressful environment. Our bodies were not designed by nature to sit for long periods of time. Unfortunately, as a result, our bodies end up developing unwelcome back, neck and shoulder issues.

Michelle ran her own successful Remedial Massage Clinic on the Mid North Coast, and moved to Sydney in 2012. She is now located in the beautiful village of McMahons Point, just a short walk from North Sydney.

Michelle specialises in Remedial Massage with an emphasis on Myofascial Release, Trigger Point therapy and Deep Tissue Massage. However, all her treatments are tailored to your individual needs and presenting condition. Her intuitive approach enables her to really listen and focus on the needs of your body.
Many have described Michelle as having “Magic Hands”

Services

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a focal area of hyper-irritability that is locally sensitive to pressure and can refer symptoms (usually pain) to other areas of your body, or simply it is a small contraction knot in muscle tissue. It affects muscle by keeping it both tight and weak. At the same time, a trigger point maintains a hard contraction on the muscle fibres that it is a part of. In turn, these taut bands of muscle fibre keep constant tension on your muscle’s attachments, often producing symptoms in adjacent joints.

The constant tension in the fibres of the trigger point itself restricts circulation in its immediate area. This in turn, causes waste products that are normally flushed out in the circulation process, to remain in the area, causing pain. The resulting accumulation of these metabolic waste products, as well as deprivation of the oxygen and nutrients required for metabolism, can perpetuate trigger points for months or even years unless you seek treatment.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage, as its name says, focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to unstick the fibres of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points. Specific techniques are employed to release muscular congestion. It helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a manual technique for stretching the fascia with the aim to balance the body. Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone. It is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body. Injuries, stress, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia, and the goal of Myofascial release is to unlock fascia restriction and restore its balance.

Pregnancy Massage

A combination of Remedial and Swedish massage techniques are used to assist with the tensions and pains experienced during pregnancy. These are often caused by the extra weight and shift in the centre of gravity. There are many physical benefits to Pregnancy Massage, in addition to the nurturing and emotional support provided by the your therapist, massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous system, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain.
Care must be taken during the first trimester but Pregnancy Massage is beneficial throughout the whole pregnancy. Various techniques are used as you progress through your pregnancy and massage is best performed whilst lying on your side, or seated. Once the pregnancy is advanced, lying on your back is discouraged as this may cause pressure on deep blood vessels.

Regular massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and returning you to optimal fitness after birth.

Reviews

“Michelle has been my trusted massage therapist for a couple of years now and I couldn’t function properly without her! What makes her stand out is she genuinely cares about your health and well-being, and how she can help to improve it.
She has a knack for finding those problematic areas and focuses on working out the many knots I manage to accumulate.
She is always checking to make sure the pressure is tolerable and will always make sure the massage finishes on a soft relaxing note.
I always walk out feeling light and refreshed and ready to tackle the world again!
I can also claim on my private health fund which is an added bonus :)”

“Michelle is one of the very few massage therapists who can really treat my chronic shoulder injury. She knows exactly where to go, how much pressure to apply and exactly which muscles need releasing. She is truly a rare gem in the massage world! I can’t recommend her highly enough.”

“Michelle a colleague and someone who I trust with my own complex muscular issues. She is very much an intuitive massage therapist who actually listens and understands what your body is requiring. She seems to have developed her own unique style using deep tissue massage which strangely feels gentle – yet deep. I highly recommend her.”
