Why Finch Therapy

Robyn discovered Finch Therapy in 2007 and was a foundation therapist of this ground-breaking new method of treating chronic pain.

Initially, Robyn combined Finch Therapy with remedial massage, however after treating dozens of patients with a variety of symptoms and in combination with further training, she found that Finch was highly effective as a stand-alone treatment.

Robyn found the main benefit of Finch is how gentle, non-invasive and effective the muscle activation techniques are. These are particularly attractive for patients with painful trigger points and tight, sore muscles for whom regular massage can cause pain and discomfort, sometimes for days after treatment.

Successfully treating long-term sufferers of muscle, joint and nerve pain and debilitating headaches reinforced her belief that Finch is an amazingly effective modality, which, with consistent effort can be the solution so many have been searching for.

Clinic

Robyn and her family recently moved to Morningside, where she has established a home clinic operating three days a week. Please click on the BOOK NOW button above to check availability.

About Finch Therapy

Chronic pain is a condition that has usually been present for some time and won’t go away by itself. In some instances, the pain may come and go, but generally it never leaves permanently.

Finch Therapy is a relatively new but highly effective therapy that aims to reduce and manage chronic pain and enhance sporting performance.

It is safe and suitable for all age groups as it is non-invasive and extremely gentle.

Stiffness of the joints and painful, dysfunctional muscles can be treated with specially designed, gentle, muscle activation techniques (MATs). When done over time, these restore optimal functionality to muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints and can treat one-off problems or provide invaluable ongoing maintenance.

Finch Therapy can be of great benefit to sportspeople, from the young, the elite, and even veterans. Whether you exercise a little or a lot the principles are the same; strength and flexibility are easier to gain and maintain if you have good pelvic and postural alignment.

You are more at risk of injury, muscle and joint pain if muscle length is incorrect (i.e. is too short or too long). This imbalance pulls your skeletal frame out of alignment.

Finch Therapy addresses these issues with gentle activation techniques of specific muscle groups to re-adjust the firing pattern and ultimately the overall muscle tension and length.

If you have, for example, one hamstring always tighter than the other, unequal strength with a chest press or leg press, or a recurring achilles heel strain, you should try Finch Therapy.

Muscles are attached to bones and when they contract or relax they have an effect on a joint, causing movement. Muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, nerves and organs are held together and surrounded by fascia or connective tissue. This connective tissue is found throughout the body. It flows in clearly defined slings or chains, which can at times meet, overlap and separate again.

A dysfunctional muscle can affect the tensegrity (scroll to Tom Myers video) of the fascia surrounding it, and other muscles in the same sling may then be compromised and can become dysfunctional.

Finch Therapy was developed to address the muscle or muscle groups that have the greatest effect on the sling that encases them and by re-setting the ‘on/off’ switch, the muscle length changes, fascial tensegrity is restored and with that, the natural balance that the body requires to function optimally. Restoring correct fascial flow releases tension on joints, ligaments and tendons, which can help reduce the pain from a variety of conditions.

Robyn has enhanced her core Finch Therapy training with a course in kinesiology taping, using Rocktape. This has proven to be of great benefit to all athletes – e.g. footballers, cyclists, swimmers and gymnasts.

Rocktaping is not just of use to athletes though. It’s a proven aide in reducing muscle tension and joint pain in anyone.

Kinesiology taping differs from conventional taping by relying on theories of activation of the nervous and circulatory systems to initiate healing.

Rocktape is applied to the surface of the body and creates a lifting effect on the skin to promote normal fluid flow in the tissues below.

This activates the body’s ability to regulate muscle activity and improves the proprioceptive feedback to the area.
