ABOUT US

Papinelle is an Australian Sleepwear & lifestyle brand based in Paddington Blue Mountains. We love what we do; it’s our second child. The word Papinelle was created by simply mixing the French words “Papillon” meaning butterfly, and Coccinelle, meaning lady beetle. Specializing in PJ’s, nighties, robes and loungewear, Papinelle knows sleep. We aim to create beautiful products designed to enhance your down time. Papinelle is the Australia distributer of UK brand, Ruby and Ed, a match made in Heaven. Ruby and Ed’s snuggly slippers are the perfect finishing touch to your sleep wardrobe.

Like many of Australia’s fashion designers, fresh out of university in 2003, Renae James started Papinelle at the Paddington markets with sleepwear designs that quickly brought retail and media attention. Renae was born and raised in Blue Mountains, Australia. She loves her family, her work, traveling and wine.

Renae met her husband Chris on a work trip to New York. He was taking over the world one catwalk at a time in the US but gave it all up to settle in back Blue Mountains. They have a beautiful son named Hudson (who was named after the city in which they met).

ABOUT THE TEAM:

Papinelle has grown to a team of 20 passionate, creative people including Adeline (who can do anything with a strip of floral fabric and some thread), Sarah (the youngest member of our team and responsible for our gorgeous online store) and Emma (our VM extraordinaire).  When visiting our stores you will also have the pleasure to meet some of our amazing retail staff.

Our team stretches beyond those who work directly for us and includes some amazing characters around the country including Tam who sews our garments (it still makes us laugh when she calls pants “pans” on an invoice) to Kwan who collects your packages (and strikes a remarkable resemblance to Jeff Wiggle).

OUR STORY SO FAR

We opened our first Paddington store in 2004 and very quickly started selling into some amazing stores around the world including Fred Segal, Anthropologie and Barney’s New York. In 2010 after having our son we decided to focus on Australia and opened our second store in Leura not long after. Papinelle’s PJ’s have a strong celebrity following, our sleepwear being worn by Katy Perry, Carrie Mulligan, Paris Hilton & Sienna Miller.

Today Papinelle has culminated in 3 signature stores, a successful ecommerce store, an exclusive department store arrangement with David Jones and representation in over 180 boutiques worldwide.
