Services

Threading

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal which originated in parts of India, the Middle and Far East, and is now gaining popularity in Western countries.

Threading is a hair removal technique that uses 100% cotton thread. The cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted quickly from the follicle.

It is more precise than waxing and allows for better lines.

The technique is rather inexpensive because it does not require costly chemical ingredients. Messy waxes and creams are avoided altogether.

For women who would like to pursue a more natural beauty regimen, hair threading is a good choice, since it does not use harmful products.

As opposed to waxing, the top layers of skin are not peeled or traumatised in the process making threading gentler on the skin.

Threading is highly recommended and an excellent option for those who use Retin-A, Accutane, or similar products.

Eyebrow threading is a practice of shaping the eyebrows. Eyebrow threading is a preferred hair removal technique for a number of reasons.

Unlike tweezing or plucking, eyebrow threading removes one clean line of hair all at once, making it much quicker and easier to shape the brows.

Waxing

Waxing involves removing hair from different parts of the body, using wax.

This form of hair removal is fast becoming a popular way to remove unwanted hair from the legs, hands, stomach, back and full body. Waxing is a semi permanent method of hair removal.

It removes hair from the root.

There are several types of waxing available for removing unwanted hair. Body waxing may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but that is up to the person to decide.

The results from body waxing are what makes it a preferred choice for most individuals.

You will have smooth, hair free skin for about 2-6 weeks. A body wax will include the following areas: chest and abdomen, hands and feet, eyebrows, facial hair, arms, legs, and back.

A full body wax or a partial body wax is a harmless procedure. Several home kits for body waxing are available these days. The process of waxing is as follows:

Heated wax is applied to the part of the body where the hair is to be removed.

The wax may either be hot or cold. If it is the former, after application, it will be left to cool and then a plastic strip will be pressed down.

This strip will then be ripped off quickly in the opposite direction in which the hair grows. If cold wax is applied, then it is left to cool and taken off by a therapist without using any strips.

This method is beneficial for people with sensitive skin. Regular body waxing session may result in the hair growing back less frequently.

Waxing may result in some discomfort and pain but this soon subsides.  However the benefits are long lasting smooth skin and the need to do away with regular shaving and/or hair removing creams.

Henna Tattoos / Mehndi

Henna Tattoos / Mehndi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as by expatriate communities from those countries.

The word mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhika The use of mehndi and turmeric is described in the earliest Vedic ritual books. Haldi (Staining oneself with turmeric paste) as well as mehndi are important Vedic customs as a symbolic representation of the Outer and the Inner Sun. Vedic customs are meant to awaken the “inner light” and so the gold of the inner Sun has an important symbolic function!

Traditional mehndi designs draw the sun on the palm, which in this context represents the mind. Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called henna tattoos.

Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and Muslim Festivals such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha . Similarly in Hindu festivals like Karva Chauth, Diwali, Bhaidooj and Teej.

In some Hindu festivals, every woman tries to have Henna done on her hands and feet. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds temporarily to lawsone, the colorant of henna. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

In the modern age, usually people buy ready made Henna cones, which are ready to use and make painting easy. However, in rural areas in India, women grind fresh henna leaves on sil (grinding stone) with added oil, which though not as refined as professionally prepared henna cones, brings much darker colors. The term henna tattoo is figurative, because true tattoos are permanent surgical insertions of pigments underneath the skin, as opposed to pigments resting on the surface as is the case with mehndi.
