Eastside Physiotherapy and Sports Injury centre is a long established physiotherapy business located in Randwick. Our team of APA sports physiotherapists (Alan Davies, Diane Long), physiotherapists, and hand therapists strive to deliver a high quality service to provide solutions and strategies to manage your musculoskeletal health problems. Our experienced and highly skilled practitioners provide treatments with a hands on approach guided by latest evidence and professional experience. Our core activities include sports physiotherapy, treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, orthopaedic rehabilitation, waterproof casting and hand therapy.

We work closely with a wide range of other health professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to recovery. We also have the benefit of onsite X-ray.

We cater for all patient types including private patients (immediate claim through HICAPS), Workcover, MVA Third party claims,DVA and Medicare EPC claims.

DIANE LONG

Diane is an APA Sports Titled Physiotherapist and is one of the practice principals at Eastside Physiotherapy. Diane has over 30 years experience in all aspects of musculoskeletal physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Diane is the physiotherapist for Randwick Rugby Union Football Club, a position she has held for many years. She is the only female to be awarded Life Membership of Randwick Rugby Union Football Club.

Diane also consults at Eastern Suburbs Sports Medicine Centre in Bondi Junction

Diane has a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy) from UNSW and a Post Graduate Diploma of Physiotherapy from Cumberland College of Health Sciences.

ALAN DAVIES

Alan is a highly experienced APA Sports Physiotherapist with over 25 years experience in private practice and all levels of sports and age groups from the professional athlete to the junior participant.
He has extensive experience  and interest in managing all sports injuries including but not limited to patellofemoral pain, shoulder instability and post operative rehabilitation including ACL reconstruction, Hip and knee arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, acromioplasty / sub acromial decompression and shoulder stabilisation.

LOUISA MCGINNESS

Louisa is a APA physiotherapist with a strong interest in

Sports and Performing Arts.
Louisa’s areas of interest include physiotherapy for dancers and performers, as well as a wide range of sports.  She will complete her Masters of Sports Physiotherapy through La Trobe University in 2016.

She is able to provide injury assessment with attention to dance technique, as well as pre-pointe screening assessments, dance injury screening and rehabilitation tailored to return the dancer to full training as soon as possible. Louisa has worked with Randwick Rugby Union since 2010 and has toured nationally and internationally with men’s and women’s Rugby 7s teams.

As a part of her Masters degree, Louisa has spent time with Sports Physiotherapists Andrew Wallis (St Kilda FC/The Hip and Groin Clinic) and Laura Schwab (Queensland Sports Medicine Centre).

Louisa has recently returned from Melbourne where she was the company physiotherapist for Matilda the Musical on a full-time basis.

MICHAEL BROADBENT

Michael is an APA Physiotherapist with a passion for sports physiotherapy.

Michael is an APA physiotherapist with a passionate interest in sports physiotherapy. He has gained experience working alongside tier 2 musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapists.

Michael was originally from Tamworth but attended The Scots College for his final years of schooling where he had a strong involvement with cricket and rugby. He completed an undergraduate bachelor degree in Exercise and Sports Science at Sydney University and then went on to attain a Master of Physiotherapy.

Fiona is a Hand Therapist who has been

treating hand injuries for over 20 years.
Fiona graduated from Cumberland College Of Health Sciences in Occupational Therapy in 1989. She has had experience in working in a variety of hand therapy clinics across Sydney, as well as in the USA. Fiona joined Eastside in 1996.

SAMANTHA MARWEDEL

Samantha Marwedel is a highly experienced

Hand Therapist.

She commenced work at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 1990 and became a Senior Therapist in Rheumatology and Orthopaedics in 1994, moving into the Hand Therapy Unit in 1996 till 2004.

In 2004, Samantha worked as a Hand Therapist at Neutral Bay Physiotherapy and she was involved in a research project with the Rehabilitation Studies Unit, University of Sydney in 2005.

Samantha is an Associate member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association.

She joined the practice at Eastside Physiotherapy in 2006 as a part time Hand Therapist treating a variety of conditions and injuries including, hand and wrist fractures, tendon injuries, post surgery and arthritic conditions.

Hand Therapy specialist skills involve wound care, scar management, oedema management, custom made thermoplastic splinting, neoprene splinting, casting, and hand exercise programmes.

SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY

Sports physiotherapy is the application of knowledge and skill in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries. The methodology can be applied to the rehabilitation of all musculoskeletal problems.

ORTHOPAEDIC POST-OP REHABILITATION

Post operative pain, swelling, joint stiffness and weakness is to be expected following surgery and can vary considerably between individuals and with different operations.

CASTING AND SPLINTING

All of our therapists have extensive experience in the application of waterproof casts. A waterproof cast is a lightweight, strong, durable cast that is allowed to get wet. This allows for showering and total immersion in water.

MUSCULOSKELETAL SCREENING

The Musculoskeletal Screening is designed to identify and manage injury risk, as a pre-participation Screening tool and for individuals with a significant previous injury profile.

HAND THERAPY       

Hand Therapy is the science of rehabilitation of the upper limb – elbow to hand. It involves evaluation and testing to assess the injured limb from which a specific treatment program can be designed.

DANCE & PERFORMING ARTS

Injury treatment and rehabilitation for performing artists and dancers is provided with a focus on return to training in a modified form as early as possible.

BACK PAIN & NECK PAIN

We take a very active approach to the treatment of back pain. Our therapists will use a range of soft tissue techniques, mobilisation, therapeutic exercise prescription and education regarding your particular presentation to ensure a successful and timely recovery.
