General Piercing Information

Never touch or play with healing piercing with unwashed hands
It is easiest to wash the piercing in the shower twice a day. Stand with the new piercing in the flow of the water for a few minutes until any dry build up around piercing has softened, then using clean hands or a cotton bud dislodge any dry build up from around the piercing taking care not to push any into the piercing as it may damage the newly formed skin inside
After shower apply Aftercare Product as advised by Piercer
Apply Aftercare Product directly onto the piercing. Do not soak or attempt to rotate or turn the piercing
Your healing time depends on your own body’s ability to heal. It can take anywhere between 1- 6 months to heal providing you follow the above advice (although it is not uncommon for some piercings to take longer)

Dermals, Skin Divers and Surface Piercings

Refer to General Piercing Information above
Do not change the dermal top or surface balls on the surface bar until 3 months after piercing to allow sufficient time for healing
Never attempt to rotate a dermal
For the first 3 months at night time keep piercing covered whilst sleeping or when doing any physical activity to avoid sweat coming into contact with the piercing
When swimming the piercing must be covered with a waterproof patch
When removing patches at any time always remove the patch SLOWLY.  There may be a dry build up over the piercing site and if you pull the patch too quickly you will increase your chances of pulling and distorting the piercing site

Oral Piercings- Labret, Beauty Spot, Lip, Cheek etc

Refer to General Piercing Information above
Because your new piercing is on the inside and the outside of your mouth you must clean both sides 2 separate ways
Cleaning inside of your mouth: you must spray mouth with Aftercare Product any time you eat, drink or smoke for 8 weeks after getting pierced
Cleaning outside of your mouth: you must apply Aftercare Product as advised by Piercer. Continue this after care twice a day for approximately 6-8 weeks after getting pierced
We have placed in a longer bar or larger ring than may appear needed, this is to allow for any potential swelling. This will need to be changed for a shorter bar or smaller ring after approximately 2-4 weeks
It is very important that you come back to purchase the shorter jewellery as leaving the larger jewellery in unnecessarily can damage your teeth and gums
To further assist your healing it is best to avoid alcohol or smoking during the first two months of healing

Tongue and inside mouth Piercing

During the first 24 hours keep the inside environment of your mouth cold by sucking ice, sipping cold drinks and eating soft, cool, non-spicy foods. This will help to reduce the swelling
Rinse mouth using BLUE Aftercare Product anytime you eat, drink or smoke for approximately 8 weeks
We have placed in a longer bar to start with to allow for any potential swelling, this will need to be changed to a shorter bar after approximately 1-4 weeks
It is very important that you come back to purchase a shorter bar as leaving the longer bar in unnecessarily can damage your teeth and gums
To further assist your healing it is best to avoid alcohol or smoking during the first two months of healing
Your healing time depends on your own body’s ability to heal. It can take anywhere between 1-6 months providing you follow the above advice

NEVER DO THE FOLLOWING  TO YOUR PIERCING:

Do not use the following to clean your piercing:  Methylated Spirits, Dettol, Bleach, Contact Lens Solution, Betadine, Alcohol, Kitchen Table Salt or ANY other chemical as all of these will burn and ruin your Piercing.
Do not apply fake tan over piercing sites
Do not apply antiseptic creams to piercing
Never touch piercing site with unsterilized fingers/hands
Do not turn or rotate piercings
Do not aggravate the piercing site with clothing (eg: tight pants on a belly piercing)
Never swim before the site has healed in a chlorine pool without covering your piercing first (waterproof and water tight)

Piercing Aftercare Products

Blue:        Oral:   For oral piercings (mouth)
Yellow:    Lobe:   For ear piercings

Saline solution recipe

Mix 2 teaspoons of rock salt or sea salt (NOT ordinary table salt) into 1 litre of boiled water, store in a clean lidded container (wash out with boiling water)
OR

For a smaller amount ½ teaspoon of rock salt or sea salt into 1 cup (250mls) of boiled water.
Renew solution every 3 days, apply twice daily after washing hands or showering
Dry the area thoroughly after cleaning
Use saline solution only to this specific formula. If the solution is too strong it may dry and burn your skin

Additional Information

If you have a pressure lump or blister around your piercing or a slight infection the only medically proven product is Kenacomb  Ointment.  You will need a prescription to get this ointment so you will need to consult your Doctor.

If I am pierced at another Piercing Studio and I am having problems can I come to Piercing Planet for advice?
Yes, we cannot offer you adequate advice via Facebook or over the phone.  However we encourage you to come into our Studio and one of our professional body piercers or highly trained staff would be more than happy to assist you.  This is a free service.  Problem piercings usually only require more appropriate size and quality body jewellery.  Most problems can be easily fixed.  We can assist you with the change of your body jewellery for a cost of $4.95 to $9.95 (price depends on the complexity of the change). We will also educate you on correct Aftercare procedures to increase the lifetime of your piercing and to reduce the possibility of you encountering further problems.

We will try and schedule you for the closest vacant appointment we have available.  If we are booked out this may mean you will not be rescheduled until the next day.

How long does it take to do a piercing?
Most piercings take only 10 minutes however we want you to leave the Piercing Room feeling comfortable and very knowledgeable about how to best take care of your piercing, therefore sometimes it may take a bit longer.

Can someone come into the room with me when I am getting pierced?
Unfortunately we only allow the person being pierced into the Piercing Room as we don’t want to compromise a clean environment.  Your friends and family are welcome to wait in the store and have a look around while they wait for you.  Younger children who are getting their ears pierced are allowed to bring a parent/guardian in the room for comfort.

Can you pierce with different style and size balls straight away?
You are able to choose from the largest selection of different style and size balls in Australia.  Our Piercers are able to fit them for you immediately.

How do I know if I am taking care of my piercing correctly?
If you have any concerns or questions please come into our studio and one of our friendly staff will be more than happy to assist you.

Can I be pierced with body jewellery that I bring along to the appointment?
Every piece of jewellery needs to be sterilised before you are pierced so therefore we don’t usually use customer jewellery. Furthermore, we cannot be sure about the quality of the material  your jewellery is made with. Our supplied jewellery is free with your piercing, is sterile and is made of  high grade surgical stainless steel – all of which ensure you achieve the best possible result with the healing of your piercing. You may insert your own body jewellery once your piercing has fully healed.

Is there anything I can do to prepare for my appointment?
Yes.  We advise that you eat substantial food within four hours prior to your appointment time.  Clean, loose fitting clothing is also recommended for your comfort.

How Can I Be Sure That My Piercing Is Performed In Sterile Conditions?
Our clinic upholds  only the strictest of Hygiene Standards.  Please click on the Certification/Hygiene button in the top of the page for more specific details on our Hygiene Policy.

What is the difference between a dermal and a skin diver?
Both piercings are permanent (that is you cannot take them out yourself, they have to be professionally removed).  With a dermal you are able to change the top (ie colour of ball, design, etc) however with a skindiver you cannot change the top – the skin diver you get pierced with is what you will have the whole time you have the skin diver in.  There is also some difference in the base of the jewellery – ie the part that is inserted under your skin.

Can I get the piercer to change the jewellery for me?
You are welcome to come into our Studios at anytime and we can advise what you can change to.  The Piercer will then change your jewellery for a small cost of between $4.95 and $9.95, depending on the complexity of the change.

Do I need to make a booking?

It is recommended that you phone 3210 2444 so as you can be pierced at the time you want.  However if phoning ahead is not possible please come into the store and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Do I have to be 18 or older to get piercings?
It is against the law to perform the following types of piercings on persons under 18 years of age:  nipple, female and male genetalia (we refer to these as intimate piercings).  There is no law preventing any other types of piercings to persons under the age of 18.

What ID do I need for intimate piercings?
You will need photographic ID stating your date of birth and name

Do I need parental consent to get a piercing?
As we said above there is no age restriction on piercings other than intimate piercings referred to above.  However if you are younger than 18 we do recommend that you discuss your plans for piercing with your parents beforehand, so everyone is happy with what you are about to do.

Our autoclave machine which does the medical grade sterilisation is regularly validated by outside professionals to further ensure your complete protection.

All needles, equipment and jewellery used for your piercing is displayed in front of you in all their individual sterile pouches.  These pouches are then opened and the items are removed right in front of you so as you are assured that all equipment and jewellery used in your piercing is sterile and 100% safe.  We have procedures in place that enable us to track every piece of equipment and jewellery used for a particular customer for many years after you have had your piercing performed.

Reviews

“Got my septum done a while ago but posting my review now Just to warn people
When I got my septum done here, it was an absolute NIGHTMARE! The chick who pierced me pierced through the wrong spot at first, took the needle back out and tried again… oopsy, still wrong. On the third try she got it and it was the most excruciating thing I’ve ever been through. Off ya tree is right across the road, and their customer service and pierced are much better in my opinion. Sure, piercing planet have great deals but is it really worth it? Not for me”

“i got my nipple and septum done here about a month an a half ago. first off they rushed the 2 piercings i got. (i was in there for under 5 minutes for 2 piercings) didn’t give me a chance to find out what gage i was getting. second they wouldn’t allow me to have my boyfriend with me for support. third they gave me the completely wrong type of bar for my nipple, which was also too small and to deep in my nipple that i now need to get RE-PIERCED. i can’t wear any normal nipple piercing jewellery has the piercing is to deep and pierced curved. (at the moment i have a ring in which sticks outwards and looks ridiculous) Im very annoyed about this whole situation as i shouldn’t have to be getting pierced in the same place again cause it was done wrong the first time AND nipple piercing are one of the most painful places to get pierced! They did tho do an ok job with my septum, i’ll give them that. it has healed well. wasn’t overly painful just a little crooked. i wouldn’t really recommend going here for a piercing. but they do have a lovely collection of jewellery to buy for healed piercings”

“I have have a lot of piercings done at numerous locations so I know what good service is. Recently went to piercing planet. I was warned not to go here from friends, based on there past negitive experiences. My piercer was lovely but she gave me a vibe she wasn’t at all confident in what she was doing, which obviously made me a bit nervous. I went through with the piercing and where she placed it wasn’t even visible to see in my ear. I have a high pain tolerance and have never had an issue with piercings in the past but she was forceful, and I can say it was painful. I asked her to take it out, when I said I wasn’t happy and she was very obviously annoyed and a rude about it …
I understand that I wouldn’t get a refund but I did ask for a store credit because I WAS a very frequent shopper at piercing planet for jewellery … I did not receive a store credit. Very disappointed.”

“All the piercings I’ve had with these guys have healed well and been nicely placed, however I find the jewellery isn’t worth the price tag. I’ve had gold jewellery discolour super quickly as well as the little diamonds fall out of multiple earrings. Just bought a rose gold tragus piercing with a diamond in it today and already it’s fallen out. I literally asked how long it would last too and was told at least a few months. Am hoping it will be replaced with no issues “
