Portmans started over 60 years ago and evolved into what we know today. Now in 2010, Portmans are always thinking about what you want in a wardrobe. Giving you great quality in the hottest new looks is very important to Portmans.
The Bloom family established Portmans in the 1940’s. Joseph Bloom and his sons were initially manufacturers, supplying women’s fashion to the retail market. It was in 1946 that they opened their first retail store in Victoria’s Swanston Street, Melbourne City. The Blooms were careful to set prices in the low to medium range – affordable fashion was the key to their foray into retail.
The Portmans brand started to grow in the 1960’s within Victoria and expanded to become, in the early 80’s, the national chain it is today.
In the 1980’s Portmans introduced the advertising positioning statement ‘Get the Look’ and a logo that reflected the time. It was then that the ‘Portmans Girl’ strategy was introduced, based on having one model/ girl represent the brand values – femininity, value, reliability, friendliness, success, youth, fashion and fun. The first Portmans Girl was Alison Brae, who remained so for about two or three years. From here Portmans changed the model/ girl every 12 to 18 months.
The Portmans girl is glamourous, polished, playful and pretty. She is a metropolitan fashionista who lives works and play inner city. Her look is ever evolving and each season she wants to look new and on trend. She is inspired by her surrounds and find beauty and inspiration in the urban jungle that is her home.
Since acquiring the Portmans brand in June 2002 The Just group has been able to reposition the brand as one of Australia’s premier fashion retail brands for women aged 16 – 30. It is a destination that arms girls with the fashion know-how and attitude they need to confidently navigate through this self-defining stage of their lives. A destination that not only helps girls who are going places, but delivers everything they need to get on top.
With exciting plans for its continued growth, 2010 saw the opening of an exciting flagship store in Mid City NSW with plans to continue investing in the not only the retail space but the brand as whole, Portmans aims to be the number 1 destination for girls going places.
In May 2002, Just Jeans holdings acquired the Portmans brand and retail stores. The Just Group now have an annual turnover exceeding $700 million. The group operates over 900 retail stores in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and employs over 6,000 people. The company has grown from humble family beginnings and is now part of one of Australia’s fastest growing retail corporations.

Are the prices online the same in store?
We endeavour to keep our prices consistent throughout our stores and online. Occasionally, our pricing may be slightly different due to special promotions or mark downs that are only available when purchasing online. These promotions will only apply to online orders unless otherwise stated.

Postage & Delivery
Goods will be delivered on business days. No deliveries will be made on weekends or public holidays.
A signature is required upon delivery. If no one is available to sign for the parcel, a notice will be left at your address notifying you of pick-up arrangements.
We recommend either a work address (please include full business name, receivers name and other relevant details) or PO BOX for prompt delivery.
We deliver by Australia Post. Goods may not be delivered next day due to circumstances (such as adverse weather, strikes etc.) beyond the control of Portmans or Australia Post.

Next Business Day delivery is available to customers located in Australian CBD, metro and major regional areas (excluding Perth metro and Darwin). Please check the postcodes below to see if you live in a qualifying area. If you are located outside a Next Business Day area, choosing Express delivery will still result in a faster delivery than Standard delivery.
For Next Business Day delivery you must place your order by 2pm (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) on any business day. Orders placed on weekends and public holidays will be despatched on the next business day. If your order is placed after 2pm (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) your order will be delivered on an Express delivery service.
We deliver via Australia Post with an authority to leave. We recommend either a work address or PO Box for prompt delivery. If no one is available to sign upon delivery at your nominated delivery address (private or work) the parcel will be left in a secure spot on the premises, or a card will be left notifying you of alternative pick up arrangements at the nearest Post Office. Pending credit card authorisation, verification and availability of stock, delivery will take up to 3-7 business days for delivery within Australia.
