About Louisa
Louisa Orchard from Prashanti Massage Therapy is a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, who specialises in Oncology Massage, Pregnancy Massage and Manual Lymph Drainage, and is also available for Remedial Massage, Relaxation Massage (Swedish Massage)and Indian Head Massage.
Louisa is a member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapist (AAMT), and is an AAMT Accredited Health Fund Provider.
Prashanti Massage Therapy is based in the Morley area of Perth, WA.
After a long career in Banking and IT in Australia and Scotland, it was my mother’s cancer diagnosis in 2011 that steered me onto the path of becoming a Massage Therapist.
I returned from Scotland to care for my mum, giving me the opportunity to complete a Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2013.
Massage was something I was always drawn to, having completed my first Certificate of Swedish Massage in 1984. I continued with short courses, here in Perth and in Scotland, receiving a Diploma in Indian Head Massage, and a Diploma in Swedish Massage while living in Scotland.
During my time studying in Perth, one of our placements was at Solaris Care at Sir Charles GaIrdner Hospital, massaging Cancer patients, carers and nurses. Although this was very challenging, it was also extremely rewarding, and I had finally found my ‘fit’.
I continued my education in massage, with a Certificate in Dr Vodder’s Manual Lymph Drainage to Therapy 1 Level in January 2014, a Certificate of Oncology Massage to Level 2 in October 2014, and a Certificate of Pregnancy Massage in February 2015.
I was able to put my Oncology training into practice, with my mother, my brother and my uncle, and the reward I received being able to give comfort and support was invaluable.
I am current practising Remedial Massage Therapist, and I currently volunteer with Look Good Feel Better Australia and Solaris Care at St John of God in Subiaco.

Services
Oncology Massage
Oncology Massage is a specialised massage developed by modifying existing massage techniques to ensure a person, at any stage in their cancer journey, is able to receive a massage in the knowledge that it is safe and effective.
The Oncology Massage trained therapist has an understanding to enable them to adjust and modify the massage, while being mindful of any contraindications.
Oncology Massage is a gentle, nurturing massage that can give you a deep sense of calmness and well-being.
Studies show that body based therapies on people having cancer treatment may reduce pain, fatigue, nausea, anxiety and depression.
It may also improve sleep, nerve damage, quality of life and mental clarity and alertness.
Oncology Massage can also be beneficial for other life challenging illnesses.
A full and compressive health history will be completed to ensure the massage can be tailored to your specific situation.
Further information can be found at Massage and Cancer
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is beneficial to both mother and baby throughout the entire pregnancy journey.
Pregnancy massage can include light work, relaxation massage or remedial massage. Each session is tailored to the requirement of the client.
If you are having a high risk pregnancy, it is best to discuss your condition with your midwife or doctor, prior to booking a massage therapy appointment.
Manual Lymph Drainage
The Lymphatic System is made up of lymphatic nodes and vessels and carries a clear fluid called ‘lymph’, which contains white blood cells – lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are one of the main types of immune cells, which fight against disease and infection, as well as removing other toxins from the body, such as dyes, food additives and preservatives.
Manual lymph drainage uses a gentle massage technique, incorporating specific slow, light strokes, which promotes fluid circulation and decongests the lymph nodes, which in turn, helps boost immunity and detoxification of the body.
Manual Lymph Drainage can be used to treat a number of conditions, including acute inflammatory conditions, chronic inflammatory conditions, circulatory problems (oedema) and pre and post surgery.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage addresses specific muscle tension or chronic pain, by manipulation of the soft tissues of the body – the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
The therapist will complete an assessment and formulate a treatment plan to address any issues that may be present.
Remedial Massages may employ the techniques of Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy and Myofascial Release.
The treatment will be tailored to your specific requirements.
Chronic Illness
Chronic illness like fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic fatigue, anxiety, stress, Parkinson’s, dementia, multiple sclerosis and a number of other illnesses and disorders, may respond well to regular massage.
Working closely with the health care team, we are able to build a treatment plan that is personalised to the client we being treated, with massage techniques that are customised to each client.
Massage is beneficial in decreasing stress and anxiety, as well as addressing pain and muscular discomfort resulting from the illness.
Other Therapies:

Relaxation or Swedish Massage – This is a massage that is suited to just about anyone, and relaxes the entire body. It has been know to reduce stress, both emotional and physiological, and can be prescribed for stress management.
Indian Head Massage – This form of massage focuses on the face, neck, head, shoulders, upper back and upper arms, which in Ayurveda medicine, are important energy centres within the body. It is very relaxing and has the effect of releasing stress and tension and creating a feeling of peace.
Reflexology – Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific points on the feet, hands or ears. The reflex points correspond to specific body organs and systems, and by applying pressure to these points, it has a beneficial effect on the organs, and therefore, your health.
