Remedial Massage
“Rowena has comprehensive knowledge of musculature and trigger points – she’s not afraid to use pressure. WOW.” (Phillip H.)
Remedial massage therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunctions that cause pain and restrict our movement.
At Redlands Remedial Therapy Clinic, a full client history is taken along with observations, palpation, range of motion testing and specific orthopaedic testing to determine the best treatment plan for each individual client.
Many techniques are used as part of the remedial massage treatment.
Techniques include Swedish massage, neuromuscular techniques, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques, positional release, mobilisations, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and therapeutic exercise.
The primary aim in remedial massage therapy is to restore and promote motion and reduce pain in the body.
Once a comprehensive assessment is performed, a treatment plan is written to address each clients specific goals and needs.
Book a remedial treatment today and work towards a better functioning body.
Price $120/Hour (1st visit includes consultation, assessment and treatment).
Techniques
Trigger Point Therapy
Myofascial trigger points in the body are hypersensitive palpable taut bands within a muscle.
Muscles with trigger points have a shortened resting length therefore restricting its range of motion and its associated joint/s.
Neuromuscular techniques (NMT) are one way to assess and treat hypertonic tissue with the focus on deactivating myofascial trigger points.
NMT, coupled with active stretching of the affected muscles aim to restore functional normality and coordination of the surrounding structure.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
Fascia is a dense connective tissue that covers the bones and muscles in the body. Fascia can become tight and restrict movement if you have suffered an injury, trauma or have poor postural habits.
This can lead to chronic back and neck pain, repetitive strain conditions, headaches, numbness or tingling in the arms, muscle pain and spasms.
Myofascial release is an extremely effective treatment using slow and deep pressure to break down scar tissue and relax and lengthen the tissue.
MFR significantly improves soft tissue conditions, providing effective and lasting relief for clients who suffer from pain and discomfort.
Positional Release Technique (PRT)
PRT is an effective technique that gently and passively has the involved muscle in a shortened position and pressure applied to the trigger point within the muscle.
This process facilitates the reduction of pain and restoration of normal tissue length and tension.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
MET is a form of hands-on active therapy using muscle contractions of the client to relax, lengthen and normalise joint motion.
MET is an excellent technique for increasing the range of the motion in a joint and lengthening a muscle.
It can be applied safely to many joints of the body and assist range of motion issues in clients who have back, neck, shoulder and hip pain. MET’s also treat muscle pain and can reduce the effects of oedema.
Mobilisations
Soft tissue mobilisations are small passive movements applied joints to relieve restriction in movement, restore the joints range of motion and reduce pain.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
PNF stretching is one of the best ways to improve flexibility and range of motion within joints.
The therapist takes the client into a stretch position then the client isometrically contracts the target muscle with up to 50% of their strength for up to 10 seconds.
The client relaxes the muscle as therapist takes the limb further into stretch. The contract-relax method is performed three times.
Traditional Eastern Cupping
Cupping is a technique that uses small glass cups as suction devices that are placed on the skin.
The suction is created by holding an inverted cup over a small flame, heating the air within it and quickly applying the cup to the skin.
Cupping is used to treat a range of musculoskeletal problems such as pain, tension, spasms and numbness.
Cupping is also an effective treatment for headaches, sciatica, fibromyalgia, post-surgery adhesions, stretch marks and cellulite reduction.
Therapeutic Exercise
Therapeutic exercise is a program of planned physical movements, postures or exercises that aim to remediate or prevent injuries; enhance physical function; improve overall health and optimise fitness and well-being.
Swedish / Relaxation / Therapeutic Massage
“This was the most relaxing, relaxation massage ever. Amazing. Thank you.” “Once again, amazing technique and pressure. Very professional.” (Patrick)
Swedish massage is the basis for many other types of massage.
It combines a variety of techniques that can be personalised to your specific needs.
This type of massage relaxes the entire body, increases the level of oxygen in the blood, improves circulation and reduces tension.
This is the perfect massage if you are feeling stressed, tired, overworked or just need some ‘me’ time.

Sports Massage
Sports massage is utilised by a variety of clients ranging from the elite sportsperson to social sportspeople. The body needs to be able to rest to enable it to recover from the fatigue of training.
If recovery is incomplete symptoms such as muscle pain, joint pain, tendon inflammation and bursa inflammation can occur. Massage is the best form of treatment for muscle tension.
Sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance and aids in preventing injuries.
Treatment plans are tailored specifically to you the client, not your sport, because people in the same sport have different body types, different training methods and performance standards and therefore require different treatment.
Book a sports massage today and start optimising your recovery – your body will thank you!
