Services

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports massage uses specific remedial techniques to target muscles directly related to the biomechanics of a particular sporting activity.
It can be seen to be slightly more aggressive in the way it is delivered as it is designed to bring healing & function to the muscles & other structures involved rather than to feel good.

TRIGGER POINT

Trigger points are small tender areas of tension in a muscle (knots). They are often responsible for referred pain i.e. Pain felt in another area of the body, headache, jaw pain, shoulder impingement & neck stiffness. Trigger points can be relatively easy to identify in taut bands of muscle tissue. Your therapist will use thumbs, fingers, knuckles or elbows to apply sustained compression directly on the point for 30 to 90 seconds or until the pain of compression subsides.Trigger point is not a relaxing therapy however it is a very effective way to eliminate painful tension & restore function & vitality to an area that may have been problematic for weeks, months or even years.

MFR (Myofascial Release)

MFR is a treatment designed to stretch & in doing so revitalise the connective tissue or FASCIA. The therapist can work either very lightly on the superficial fascia or deeply, either way your session will consist of “holds” up to 2 or 3 minutes long as a slow lasting stretch is performed on specific areas of the body or individual muscles. This technique is often used alongside other styles or in combination with Swedish, Deep tissue & Trigger Point if appropriate.
Based on the understanding that connective tissue supports every structure of the body it is a therapy that can achieve an incredibly deep & profound release of tension.
This can be emotional trauma, pain, tension, stress, anxiety…By releasing the fascia we allow freedom of movement & the energy to flow correctly from one structure to another facilitating our bodies own innate ability to heal itself.
This is an effective treatment for releasing pain & trauma experienced even decades ago such as childhood accidents or past injury.

LIFE CHALLENGING ILLNESS

When faced with a life challenging illness we are challenged to our very core.
Social pressures, financial worries, grief, family conflict, treatment options…all have a massive impact on our mental, physical & emotional health.
This is a time where deep relaxation/stress relief is absolutely paramount for our personal wellbeing.
Light touch massage is suitable for even the very frail and is designed to achieve deep relaxation within a very short time. This session will allow you much needed respite from worry & pain as it evokes the lovely feel good hormone oxytocin while reducing stress hormones.

ADOLESCENT

These treatments are designed to help the young person as he/she transitions from childhood to adult hood. This can be a turbulent time for our young people as they are often faced with numerous stresses such as increasing study loads, headaches, poor posture, social pressures, negative body image, hormonal changes, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances & more. The focus of these treatments is relaxation & the use of breath as a practical tool for diffusing stress in a peaceful, self empowering way.

DEEP TISSUE

Deep tissue massage is aimed at releasing tension in the deeper tissue of the muscle and fascia. The therapist will use similar techniques as used in Swedish massage, but with the addition of long slow deep strokes often with the arm, fist or knuckles. They will focus on stretching out specific muscles to release chronic tension which ay be causing disfunction. These deep strokes help to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from the muscle tissue & reinvigorate circulation.

SWEDISH

A Swedish Massage is suited to those looking to relax and unwind it is a gentle yet stimulating treatment. Some of the benefits of swedish massage are an increase in circulation, increase in oxytocin, decrease in blood pressure & decrease in stress. Swedish Massage consists of five specific strokes – Effleurage (gliding), Petrissage (kneading), Tapotement (rhythmic tapping), Circular friction & Vibration.

PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation)

PNF is a form of stretch rehabilitation. It can be used alone or more effectively in conjunction with Deep tissue, Postural correction & Sports techniques to enhance both active and passive range of motion.
It is excellent for targeting specific muscle groups, increasing flexibility & improving muscle strength.

RELAXATION

Relaxation massage is a peaceful, intuitive massage incorporating swedish techniques & MFR. The strokes are gentle & slow allowing the breath to connect with the body, releasing stress & tension, increasing the feel good hormone Oxytocin and facilitating a deep sense of calm and relaxation. I would tend to spend more time on hands, head & feet during a relaxation massage than I will during any of the other treatments. This is the ideal treatment for those suffering from insomnia, stress & anxiety.

MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage)

Manual lymphatic drainage is a form of massage that stimulates the body’s lymphatic system. MLD encreases immune function, eliminates wastes and toxins and effectively expells excess fluid from the body.
Unlike some other forms of massage, lymphatic drainage utilises a very light pressure stroke combined with soft pumping movements in the direction of the lymph nodes.
The Lymphatic system is our frontline of defence in fighting bodily infections. It is responsible for managing the fluid levels in the body, filtering out bacteria and pathogens and making and delivering infection fighting white blood cells. Travelling through the tissue, the Lymph is filtered through the spleen, thymus & lymph nodes before being redistributed into the bloodstream.
MLD is especially useful for individuals feeling constantly run down, lacking energy or suffering regular illness such as colds & flu and to relieve fluid build up in extremities due to odema.
MLD is usefull in relieving inflammation & swelling from areas of acute injury.
