SkinKandy’s staff are extensively trained, fully qualified and highly experienced with over 20 years of combined body piercing experience. Aftercare Instructions

ORAL PIERCINGS:

For the first 4-7 days, swelling is to be expected. To help keep the swelling down, you can drink cold and frozen drinks (e.g. frozen coke). In most cases, you can change the jewellery after 2 weeks with a sterile piece of jewellery (we recommend you come and check in with us first though!). The best way to clean your piercing is with a non-alcoholic mouthwash 3 times a day after meals. We recommend our Recovery Dead Sea Salt Piercing Rinse. Also clean the outside of the piercing twice a day using a cotton tip and your aftercare solution, gently cleaning around the piercing. Make sure to rinse the solution off your skin when done. It is important to avoid alcohol for 2 weeks and rinse your mouth out with water after every cigarette. Alternatively, you can use ¼ teaspoon of Sea salt and a cup of warm water and rinse your mouth thoroughly.

NOSE/SEPTUM/OTHER CARTILAGE:

Clean your new piercing twice a day for 4-8 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray, spraying the solution onto the cotton tip and cleaning around front and back of the piercing with opposite ends. Make sure to rinse off the solution when done. Do not touch or turn it as this is the way germs enter. Swelling can be expected. Jewellery can usually be changed after 4-8 weeks. If you go swimming before the healing time, make sure you clean it once you are out of the water. Alternatively, you can use sea salt and warm water. Cartilage piercings can take up to a year to heal properly.

LOBES/CLEO/EYEBROW:

Clean your new piercing twice a day for 4-6 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray. Make sure to rinse off the solution when you are done. Do not touch or turn it as this is the way germs enter. Swelling can be expected. Jewellery can usually be changed after 6-8 weeks. If you go swimming before the healing time, make sure you clean it once you are out of the water.

NAVEL PIERCINGS:

Clean your new piercing twice a day for 6-8 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray. Make sure to rinse off the solution when you are done. Do not touch or turn it as this is the way germs enter. Swelling can be expected. Jewellery can usually be changed after 6-8 weeks. We advise to avoid the pool for the first 2-3 weeks. If you must go swimming before the healing time, make sure you use a waterproof patch and clean it once you are out of the water, please keep in mind this may not always protect your piercing 100% and you can still run the risk of infection. Navel piercings can take up to 6 months or more to heal properly.

SURFACE PIERCINGS:

Clean your new piercing twice a day for 6-8 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray. Make sure to rinse off the solution when you are done. Do not touch or turn it as this is the way germs enter. Swelling can be expected. If you go swimming before the healing time, make sure you use a waterproof patch (e.g. navel piercing) and clean it once you are out of the water. All surface piercings have a high risk of growing out (usually between 6 months and 2 years).

NIPPLE PIERCINGS & OTHER PIERCINGS

: Clean your new piercing twice a day for 6-8 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray. Make sure to rinse off the solution when you are done. Do not touch or turn as this is the way germs enter. Swelling can be expected. Jewellery can usually be changed after 6-8 weeks. If you go swimming before the healing time, make sure you use a waterproof patch (e.g. navel piercing) and clean it once you are out of the water.

DERMALS AND SKIN DIVERS:

Keep a firm patch or band aid over your new piercing for 1-2 weeks. Clean twice a day for 4-6 weeks with Protat Natural Sea Salt Spray. Make sure to rinse off the solution when you are done. Do not touch or move as this is the way germs enter. Bruising and swelling around the area can be expected. Please keep in mind that dermals and skin divers are not permanent (can last up to around 4 years) and do have the risk of growing out or being pulled out.
