It seems long before a racer becomes one there is a defining moment when all becomes clear and the pursuit for speed becomes the life long obsession.

Some are born and raised in racing families and their destiny is an almost seamless transition

But for others it is the sheer exhilaration of the first exposure to the sport that brings the planets into alignment. For all the calling is unmistakable.

Love surf wear but can’t surf for sh*t! Don’t play with bats, balls, sticks or rackets?

As kids most of us will have had a crack at these things so we can appreciate the skills, talent and effort involved to be good.

But at the end of the day it’s just not what we do!

For us there’s something a little extreme about……

• A 900 horsepower, 9000 rpm, 700kg sprintcar running the cush on the sheer edge of existence.
• The cackling of an over fuelled funny car staging, launching and the rapid strip travel that follows.
• Flying at speeds of 250kms plus only centimetres from the ground.
• Launching the ride over a crest on a snakey dirt track through the hills forest.
• Perfectly timing the wee left foot jab on the anchors while holding it flat through the esses.
• Circuits, deserts, oval tracks, salt lakes and speed!

For us it’s about….

• The years of building a good rapport with the tyre contact patch and slip angle.
• The years of thought behind suspension design and set up.
• Screwing the most from the engine spec and then some.
• Agonising over the compromise between component weight and strength.
• Spending hours on an awesome paint job and graphics design.
• Gently rolling the ride out of the shed into the light of day for the first time.
• That little surge of adrenalin when the mill fires up for the shake down.

For us it’s about striving for the illusive Sixth Sense For Speed!

(One man cannot know all, for we all see, hear and think differently).

• A drivers understanding that he can’t see what the car is doing but the crew chief can.
• A crew chiefs understanding that he can’t feel what the car is doing but the driver can.
• All power to those that put the attitude and ego in the tool box and can share the observations their senses deliver.
Discuss compromise and optimise!
• The whole crew can hear when the engine is on song.
• The whole crew can smell success when the team is on song.
• The sweet taste of victory is for all to enjoy.

No matter what motorsport discipline or wherever the track, be it Daytona, Silverstone, Nürburgring, Knoxville, Warrnambool, Bathurst or anywhere in between.
