ST VERONICA WELFARE COMMITTEE

St Veronica Welfare Committee was established over 60 years ago by Mrs Eileen Bennett in West End, Brisbane to raise money to assist refugees.  In 1990, she received the Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of her work. On 27 November, 2013, Mrs Bennett passed away at the age of 92.

Mrs Bennett chose St Veronica as a symbol of the charity and compassion which should animate our work.

Our goal is to improve the conditions of impoverished communities in a sustainable way through the education of their children, by empowering women and by supporting developmental projects that will enable future generations to find their way out of poverty.

Through sponsorships, thousands of children have been lifted from destitution and enabled to complete their formal education.

Through employment generation, vocational training and animal rearing projects, many communities now earn a decent living.

Affordable child sponsorship where 100% of your $100 per year reaches your child. Such great value, even an Aussie student can afford it!

Company Overview

The St Veronica Welfare Committee was established in 1956 by Mr Colin and Mrs Eileen Bennett, in West End, Brisbane, Qld, and both the work and volunteers quickly grew. In 1980 the Committee started a thrift shop and office in West End, Brisbane. Thrift shop sales now cover all of our administrative expenses, with excess proceeds going into our special projects. All of our volunteers are unpaid. So 100% of your donation goes to your sponsor child or project.

Mission

St Veronica Welfare Committee’s mission is to improve the conditions of impoverished overseas communities in a sustainable way. We do this by working with communities to facilitate the education of their children, by empowering women to earn their own income and by supporting other developmental projects.

Our Story

Child sponsorship is one of the most fulfilling ways you can help less fortunate children in rural and slum areas. Every cent of your $100 per year donation will fund your sponsor child’s education. You’ll receive regular letters from your child, as well as photos, updates and school reports.

Through St Veronica sponsorships, the efforts of our Australian and overseas friends, thousands of children have been lifted from destitution and have completed their formal education.

Such great value child sponsorships mean even the young can support a child overseas, and many of us can also contribute to our bi-monthly Special Appeals that support great projects such as small business microfinance, vocational training, and dairy, chicken and goat rearing.
