“There are other solutions to alcohol fueled violence than simply shutting the city down .
Get rid of the lockout
– Allow exemptions for 3am cease of service
– Improve public transport
– Improve police strategies
– Fund anti-violence campaigns
– Fund intervention programs
– Get tough on repeat violent offenders
– Widen CCTV coverage
– Standardise an electronic venue incident reporting system
– Encourage extended trading hours for retail, restaurants and galleries
– Encourage street entertainment
– Shut down traffic in entertainment precincts
– Install creative lighting displays
– Extend hours for small bars and music venues
– Incentivise well-run venues
– Conduct an audit of licensees identifying any links with known crime organisations
– Appoint a ‘Night Mayor’ or someone to oversee Sydney’s night time economy”

“Finally discharged from hospital this afternoon, but after being in & out of St Vincent’s over the pass few weeks before I retire this evening as I am ready to crash right now, I must acknowledge all the brilliant staff at this hospital at every level, we all could learn so much about customer service & how to run a business from this group of amazing people who clearly love coming to work & what they do – I am humbled by the experience so a BIG THANK YOU to everyone on the team. My specialist Associate Professor Douglas Fenton-Lee you are a brilliant man that surrounds himself with an amazing team, your surgeons (so many of them I can’t remember with all the names but a special shout out to Sarah on your team who managed my case day & night). Also to Dr Thomas Yates who managed my care after the ED department you are a total legend, thank you for being so caring & supportive. Also a very special mention to all the brilliant doctors in ED, especially Tom & to my nurse that has cared for me on both occasions Pat, you both are truly amazing caring human beings (and the team in ED like the NSW Ambulance Service remain totally calm & put your mind at ease). In all honestly I couldn’t fault our health system when you experience such outstanding treatment from a team of professionals at St Vincent’s. Next time you have the opportunity to raise money or donate to this hospital let me start by saying I will not hesitate, as they are caring for us at such a high level with so much professionalism.”
