LORRAINE CARTER – OWNER OF STREETWISE HAIR

I started my hairdressing career in 1983 in Keighley in West Yorkshire, England.

Back then it was all about precision cutting, bobs and wedges, henna colouring and crimping-we have come a long way since then! I migrated to Australia and have lived in Queensland for 26 years.

When arriving in Gympie, I first worked at Hair Review, before moving on to Hair Techniques by Jane, when Hair Review changed hands.

After all these years I still feel very passionate about the hairdressing industry.

It’s a great feeling being creative, meeting new people, and most of all, changing and transforming someone with a stunning new look.

It’s the kind of career that is fresh and welcoming-you never stop learning new techniques.

I now live in Caloundra, but commute to Gympie most days (Gympie reminds me of Yorkshire and the town has been kind to me, I love the friendliness).

In the last 19 months since taking over Streetwise Hair, the salon has grown from strength to strength-it has a new look and a new team.

We now have four new staff members Bonny, Natalie and Kiara, as well as Sharon and myself.

Our team are passionate, young and vibrant-everything you want from your local Gympie hairdresser.

SHARON SMITH – SENIOR STYLIST & ALL-ROUNDER

I have worked in Canberra, the Snowy Mountains and Noosa, before arriving in Gympie.

I started my apprenticeship in Canberra in the mid 80s and have extensive experience in the hairdressing industry, including barbering, formal styling, perming, straightening and all aspects of colouring.

The thing I love most about this industry is making people feel happy and confident with their individual style.

Im available only on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s.

KIARA PERGALLINI – SENIOR STYLIST

Originally from South Australia, my family and I moved to Gympie for 8 years before relocating to the Gold Coast 4 years ago.

I completed my hairdressing apprenticeship at Solo Hair on the Gold Coast, specialising in hair extensions (tape, micro beads and beaded sewn weft), colour/foiling, style cutting and men’s hair.

I have a passion for hair extensions, colour correction and blondes.

I also have certificates and experience in Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics (formal and wedding make-up), spray tanning, eyelash extensions and facial waxing.

Come in and see me at Streetwise Hair for a new colour or style cut! I’m available from Tuesday to Saturday!

NATALIE LYELL – SENIOR STYLIST (CURRENTLY ON MATERNITY LEAVE)

From a very young age I always knew that I wanted to be a hairdresser.

I have now worked in the hairdressing industry for 10 years and strive for perfection in everything that I do.

I completed my apprenticeship with Smyths inc in Noosa, and enjoyed working there for 6 years, before heading off on a new hairdressing adventure.

That took me north to Rockhampton, where I worked at another award-winning hair salon, which was another great experience.

Now I’m in Gympie due to the L word-LOVE! I am a blonde enthusiast. It’s my passion.

I work with all shades-whether you desire subtle golden highlights or a cool blonde shade, I can help! I also thoroughly enjoy precision cutting and styling.

BONNY DOWLING – 3RD YEAR APPRENTICE

Originally from Thursday Island, our gorgeous Bonny moved to Tin Can Bay with her family.

Bonny started off at Streetwise Hair through TAFE as work placement, before progressing to an apprenticeship.

She is currently half way through her 2nd year and is competent in colouring, foiling, hair extensions, blow-drying, setting, GHD curls and straightening.

Bonny has successfully completed a range of courses including body and facial waxing, eyelash extensions, lash and brow tints, ear piercing and spray tanning, as well as formal and wedding make-up.
