Our History & Our People

Sullivan Rees was founded in the 1920’s by Charles Beer in Murwillumbah.

The firm has seen many changes over the years and was acquired by the current Directors Michael Lucas and James Sullivan in 1996.

Since 1996, the firm has enjoyed significant growth and success due to its ability to retain clients by providing a personalised and consistent service.

Meet our people

James Sullivan – Director CPA, BCOM
Prior to joining the firm in 1996, James worked with a CA firm in Brisbane for 5 years and spent two years as a financial controller at a quarrying and earthmoving company.

He specialises in Taxation (Income Tax, CGT and GST) with a focus on construction, property development and civil contracting.

Michael Lucas – Director CPA, BBUS

Michael joined Sullivan Rees in 1983, after two years of experience in audit in Sydney.

He became a Director in 1996, and currently specialises in Superannuation and Taxation – Income Tax, CGT, and GST.

Stephen Brotherton BBUS – Senior Consultant

Stephen joined Sullivan Rees in 1990.

He has over 30 years of experience
in the industry and specialises in Retirees and Individual Income Tax Returns.

Jodi Smith BBUS – Consultant

Jodi has 7 years of accounting
and tax experience.

She is currently undertaking the CPA
course and specialises in Small Business and Superannuation Funds.

Joanne Baker – Office Administration

Joanne has been with the firm for many years and is responsible for all administrative duties, including liaising with the ATO and ASIC on behalf of clients.

Jacci McDonald Reception Secretarial

Jacci has been with the firm for over six years, and is responsible for liaising between clients and the ATO, as well as all administration duties.

Louise Turner
Louise joined Sullivan Rees in 2010 and has just recently completed her
B.Bus at Southern Cross University. Louise assists James in preparing
financial statements, income tax returns and business activity statements.
