WHAT ARE SURFACE ANCHORS / MICRODERMALS / DERMAL ANCHORS?

Surface Anchors could quite possibly be the “NEXT BIG THING” in the body piercing world. Surface Anchors are a design of body jewellery that allows for a “single point” piercing. This means that a piercing only has one visible end or bead.

ADVANTAGES OF SURFACE ANCHORS TO TRADITIONAL PIERCING?

Placement is possible almost anywhere. Surface Anchors allow the skin to move, pull & stretch.

This free movement allows the body to heal with less scarring & healing times are drastically shorter.

In lip or labret piercings, Surface Anchors will make tooth damage & gum erosion a thing of the past.

 WHAT IS THE PIERCING PROCEDURE?

This will depend on where you go to get the piercing done.

Some piercers will use a standard needle where other piercers will use a dermal punch.

The skin is pierced with a standard needle or a dermal punched through the skin. The jewellery is then inserted.

DOES IT HURT?

Any pain associated with piercing will differ from person-to-person and from area-to-area.

CAN I CHANGE THE LOOK OF MY SURFACE ANCHOR?

Yes. Surface Anchors have many different end pieces to choose from.

These are a 14 gauge internally threaded piece. Below are some of the end pieces that we now stock.

HEALING & AFTERCARE?

The major step in giving the piercing the best possible healing scenario is with pressure.

Pressure should be put on the piece for the first 48 to 72 hours.

This will allow your body to anchor the piece into it’s original piercing position.

A dressing should be put over the piercing and it should be strapped down quite tight, be sure it is straight, it if is not over the piercing straight it may allow the piercing to grow crooked.

For cleaning and care: ¼ teaspoon of sea salt with 1 cup of water and soak for 2-5minutes, repeated 2-3 times per day for 2-3 weeks.

The best thing is to keep the piece safe, free from stress, free from irritants, clean, dry & in an overall good environment to heal in.

This will allow short healing time. Another way to allow the piercing to heal properly is by getting the piercing done with a flat disc, this will help to minimise knocking the piece.

WHERE DO I GO TO GET A SURFACE ANCHOR?

Click on “Our Piercers” menu button on your left. At the moment only Australian piercers are listed but as time progresses it will include a global map. If you are a body piercer who does Surface Anchors piercing and would like to be listed email info@surfaceanchors.com.au

WHY ARE SURFACE ANCHORS TITANIUM?

Implant grade Titanium are used in Surface Anchors.

Titanium is the most bio-compatible of all metals due to its total resistance to attack by body fluids.

Titanium is often used in permanent surgical implants where the tissue is encouraged to assimilate the implant.

WHERE ARE SURFACE ANCHORS MADE?

Surface Anchors are manufactured in Australia from US Titanium.

14 VS 16 GAUGE SURFACE ANCHORS?

Other manufacturers of Surface Anchors may have various gauges. With our testing, we don’t believe that 16g (gauge) Surface Anchors are necessary as the 16g post will have to be the same height as the 14g post. The width of 14g is 1.6mm whereas the width of 16g is 1.2mm.

HOW DO I REMOVE A SURFACE ANCHOR?

For removal of Surface Anchors it is best to go back to the place where you got the piercing done. Like all piercing it will leave a tiny hole where the piercing once was. If you try the removal yourself you may have more obvious scarring.
