Tattoo Removal With Qswitched ND Yag Laser

HOW DOES IT WORK?:

Pulses of light are emitted at nanosecond pulse duration ( 1 nanosecond is 1billionth of a second ) the laser light is directed onto the tattoo where the light is absorbed by the tattoo ink. The laser light is attracted by the following colours: black, blue, red, and it will shatter those inks which will then be eliminated by the epidermis , visible when skin peels , also by the phagocytes, ( they are cells , such as a white blood cell, that engulf and absorb waste material, harmful microorganisms , or other foreign bodies in the bloodstream and tissues ) and the lymphatic system.

More than one treatment is necessary to remove all tattoo pigment. The amount of treatments depends on the age of the tattoo , the ink used, how deep the tattoo was implanted.

It is very effective on black, blue, red,brown,( it is effective for age spots and sun spots removal ) but there is also fading of most colours to some degree, however green, yellow, pink, orange and purple can be troublesome.

Medical and traumatic tattoos respond well ,but the origin of the tattoo is very important, if it is unclear, a biopsy is recommended.

Cosmetic tattoo ink, containing iron oxide can permanently turn black ( most cosmetic tattoos do contain iron oxide).

Lip colours containing titanium dioxide ( light colours) will also turn black.

Tanned skin whether obtained by the sun,or the use of sun beds is a problem, the tattoo cannot be removed if the skin is tanned, so if considering tattoo removal, please wait until the skin returns to your natural skin colour.

Do not apply fake tan. If fake tan has been applied recently, wait until it has disappeared before you have your tattoo removed.

ARE THERE ANY PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE PRIOR TO THE TREATMENT

A free consultation is available free of charge to check on your skin type, heath, etc. if you have any doubt visit your GP and get a clean bill of health. In order to avoid delaying the start of your treatment, as I mentioned it previously, you must avoid tanning whether in the sun or sun beds ,and no fake tan! Sun burnt skin cannot be treated either, and no treatment can be started if the area to be tattooed is experiencing problems like dermatitis, psoriasis, abrasions, pimples etc.

Anaesthetic can be used before to minimize discomfort, ice is used prior to the treatment, pain killer like Panadeine or Panadol can be taken 1 hour before ( no blood thinning medications like Nurofen, Aspirin). Anaesthetic is available at the chemist under the name of Emla and applied 1 hour before covered with gladwrap.

You can also have the area anaesthetized with a stronger, more efficient cream, available only from Sydney Body Tattoo Removal (charge will apply ). You must stop at least one week prior to the treatment, all vitamins, like : vitamin C, glucosamine, ginkgo, fish oil as these vitamins make you bleed more, and make you bruise ,and you must do the same before each treatment.

After Care
After the treatment you may experience some redness, swelling, scabbing, sometimes blistering. This is a normal process as the body works to eliminate the tattoo inks. Throughout the treatments new layers of skin grow and the old tattoo is pushed towards the surface. Internally fragmented pigment is removed by scavenger cells. A scab will be formed, fall off, leaving fresh new skin with no tattoo.

It is rare for the skin to become infected because the surface of the skin is not usually broken. It is also rare to scar as the laser is only in contact with the skin for only billionths of a second and there is not enough time for a significant build up of heat in the skin.

AFTER CARE

Following the treatment the skin should be cooled.
Apply bepanthen cream to the area.
Apply a non stick dressing and this should be left on the skin until the next day.
Avoid excessive heat in the skin ( exercise, hot bath, shower, sauna for the next 24-48 hours).
Do not expose the skin to the sun or sun beds.
When in the sun after 48 hours, use a SPF 30 sun block.
Do not pick or scratch.
Avoid injury to the treated area.
If you don’t develop any crusting, remove the bandage 24 hours after each treatment.
The area may feel slightly sunburned for a couple of days and cold packs can be applied as needed for comfort.
The treated area may remain red and puffy for up to a few weeks.
It is common to develop an itching sensation in the treated area even weeks after the treatment.
If applying bepanthen cream does not decrease the itch, you can apply 1% hydrocortisone cream.

IN CASE OF

Blisters, do not puncture them. Let them reabsorb or break on their own but keep bepanthen cream and a bandage over them.

If there is crusting or oozing from the treated area, continue applying bepanthen cream after cleansing and then cover with a bandage to help keep the treated area moist.Keep the treated area moist 24 hours a day until all crusting is gone.

If you develop crusting or a scab, don’t pick at it or you may cause scarring and avoid swimming or using hot tubs until it is dry.
