RACHAEL SHERIDAN

Rachael was born in Scotland and has always been passionate about movement and its ability to make her feel good. She was first introduced to Pilates as part of her professional dance training in Edinburgh, it wasn’t until her final year of training, whilst suffering lower back pain, that she discovered the full array of benefits achievable from a regular practice. Introduced by her physiotherapist for rehabilitation she marvelled at how it both lengthened and strengthened her body in the dance studio and eliminated back pain from her life.

She left Scotland in 2009 to travel through Asia and Australia, and settled in Sydney where she completed her Pilates Mat and Studio education with Polestar Pilates. She is fascinated by the human body, the magic of the mind and spirit, and how Pilates addresses each of these entities to create ‘whole body health’. Rachael believes that the Pilates journey is lifelong practice of movement and discovery; reducing the occurrence of injuries, improving awareness and self embodiment, and building a long lean strong body, armoured and ready for the sometimes battlefield of life. She takes pride in her ability to communicate on a respectful level with each of her clients and aims to challenge their ideas on what they can achieve from their practice- as well as making each session fun!

MASSAGE THERAPY
Remedial Massage uses deep massage techniques to locate and release areas that are either fatigued or weak to restore mechanical balance in your body.

Relaxation Massage allows you to switch off giving the nervous system a chance to unwind, and for your whole body to re-charge. An effective antidote to our often over-stimulated bodies and minds.

Sports Massage looks to stimulate fatigued joints & muscle groups from your chosen sport. Almost all sports cause muscular asymmetry. An effective sports massage aims to restore balance between under-utilized and over-utilized muscles.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE – TCM
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide array of disorders and can be balance and regulate bodily functions. Science suggests it has an effect through stimulating positive changes within specific areas of the brain.

Chinese Herbal Medicine – is used to treat a wide range of health issues and is often used in conjunction with acupuncture therapy or on its own. Chinese Herbal Medicine can also be used alongside conventional medications to minimize side effects.

Moxibustion – is used with acupuncture therapy to stimulate acu-points through burning a specific herb over the point. It emits a gentle warmth and generally feels very pleasant.

Tuina Massage – ‘An mo tui na’ means ‘pressing rubbing pushing grasping’ and refers to the style of bodywork practiced within TCM. This style of bodywork is a firm & stimulating style of massage and can be used as part of a TCM treatment.

PILATES
Pilates is an exercise style that involves training your muscles to improve posture and alignment. By focusing on your core strength & muscle length you enhance the deep postural muscles in the body so you’re better able to support the larger ligaments, tendons and joints. This enables movement with greater efficiency and less energy expended.
