How it all begun
When I google the history of Australia, I find documentation on Aboriginal history, the Janszoon voyage of 1606, which was claimed by Great Britain in 1770 and initially settled through penal transportation to the colonies of New South Wales from the 26th of January 1778.
On the 1st of January 1901 the six States federated, forming the Commonwealth of Australia which became my beautiful home 114 years later.
As well as the land having its history; so do we, as individuals. Our history and our experiences in life form us, to whom we are today, what we believe in, stand for and what we want to achieve in the future.
I was born and fortunate enough to grow up in one of the most beautiful countries on earth, Switzerland. Although I never really felt that I “fit in with my people” I certainly didn’t suffer living in such a nice spot and I was lucky enough to travel through all of Europe many times in my first 30 years.
I’ve seen a multitude of places all around the world and lived in Hong Kong for a while. But let me tell you, I felt like Captain Cook when I discovered Australia in 2001. Travelling through this most beautiful country for 8 months, I can’t describe my feeling in any other way than: “I was finally home”.
Back in Switzerland, I felt homesick for Australia! At that time I also discovered that I was not the only one wanting to return to Australia and live there. Unfortunately, being older and being an Accountant was nowhere to be found in the “Skilled Occupations List” at the Australian Immigration, did not raise my hope for a Visa. To get married for an Australian Passport was not an option for me to consider.
After spending thousands of dollars and 11 years later I finally won my drawn out battle with the Australian Immigration Department obtaining residence. On the 22nd of May 2014 I became a proud Australian.
During my early years in Australia I educated myself as much as possible. Priority number one was learning English, which is not as easy as one might think. There was no way I could practice my profession as an Accountant here in Australia without English. So I did what I had to do, to get by. Working at a coffee shop in Miami was one of the funniest and most memorable times that I remember to the extent that my boss Candy was exposed on “Current Affair”. I am a relatively conservative Swiss woman and what happened in that coffee shop between the owner and the clientele was so unbelievably funny and at times unbelievable that I can’t openly share it. However Candy gave me a job and she looked very well after all her staff.
After an array of these experiences I felt it was time to move on and the need to go back to “my profession” stirred inside.
Whilst still educating myself and learning everything I could about Australia and Australians, I then decided to open my own bookkeeping business ‘Swiss Balance’ in February 2006.
‘Swiss Balance’ offered a bookkeeping service to small, smart businesses. The client would upload their paperwork through our website and our certified consultant, registered BAS agents and qualified bookkeepers would process them.
It was a massive learning curve… It really was!!!
At times it was also quite overwhelming but at the end of it I think – I got it!
When the recession touched Australia I decided early 2011 to decrease my business and to take a ‘break’ from accounting.
My hobby in graphic design accompanied me almost my whole life and I wanted to follow that passion for a while. I started to work in a sign writing company as kind of an apprentice to learn what I needed to know to open a printing and graphic design business myself. With the help of my late partner I opened cncARToz a graphic design business in 2012.
My partners passing had a massive impact on my life in 2013, which also resulted in selling cncARToz. But in saying that, I am very happy that my experiment as a graphic designer and printer lives on. The Printing Industry isn’t for me and especially not all by myself but I learned a lot and I am very glad and thankful that I have this very special experience. What next you might ask, I had to go back to the drawing board.
“Sometimes things that happen in our Lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us”
Spending time overseas and a lot of “data processing” (soul searching) combined with lots of help from my friends, interesting conversations and debates with my business associates helped to form ‘tece Australia‘.
I am ecstatic to be able to look into a future with lots of challenges that come with a new company. I look forward to working with great smart Companies & Business and their absorbing, engrossing, fascinating, riveting, gripping, compelling, compulsive, captivating, engaging, enthralling, appealing, attractive, amusing, entertaining, stimulating owners and staff members.
What ‘tece’ stands for; The ‘t’ in ‘te’ stands for training and the ‘c’ in ‘ce’ for consulting. The rest is simply decoration!
I knew I was doing the right thing and felt very comfortable being back in “my profession” when opening my new business ‘tece Australia’.
I had an epiphany during an interview. Suddenly it was so clear, I was thinking for years that I wasn’t in my “dream job”; but I was!
To finally be able to “tick off the box” of becoming a “graphic designer and printer” and to really feel that I had done what I was meant to do all along is very revealing. Many people would possibly disagree with me butI love my job and there is nothing boring about it.
