Tora Sumi means Tiger Ink. Last year the Tora Sumi Tattoo concept was conceived in a Balmain café by two good friends. Together they have brought to life an idea and made their dream a reality.
381 Darling Street Balmain has been transformed from an old shop to a contemporary art & tattoo space.

With an eye for detail Ian and Mark have chosen to do something totally different from the sterotypical traditional Tattoo Parlor.

Tora Sumi Tattoo Studio is a contemporary Art Gallery, with private tattooing rooms that feature a blend of modern and retro cool combined with a retail space offering unique and quirky gifts sourced from the around the globe.

Why Tiger Ink?
As a couple of Balmain locals who are also Tigers supporters it just made sense.

Just over two years ago we realised our dreams and opened our tattoo studio and gallery.
Over the last two years we have managed to attract and keep some of the best tattoo artists in the country.
The whole idea was to create an environment that everyone feels welcome in and we believe we have achieved that. As our customers you are the best judge of that and from the constant reviews you all leave it appears that you are as happy as we are.

Tora Sumi is a space for the creative collaboration of art + ink that will inspire exciting ideas and outcomes across a diverse range of art forms.

We believe tattooing is the soulful practice of permanently galvanizing a symbolic idea or belief. It is a holistic experience touching on the emotional, physical, spiritual and mental.

It has been said galleries should be lively places, full of energy and new experiences and two-way conversations between artists and viewers. Where art should enlighten, challenge and comfort the senses.

And so we will provide a helpful, friendly and empathetic environment where the freedom of expression is encouraged and celebrated.

TATTOO SERVICES

Tora Sumi is a custom and appointment based tattoo studio, but we always welcome walk-ins subject to availability.
At Tora Sumi we provide the perfect environment to discuss and design your special tattoo. Our artists both in-house and our guest artists are available for consultation.

Our tattoo services include custom tattoo designs and implementation, tattoo coverups and adaptations and tattoos from found designs and flash.

For any one wanting to re-invent their older tattoos we also offer a Lazer removal service to achieve the best result possible.

ToraSumi is open Monday through Saturday 10 – 6 and Sundays 10 – 4.

Cancellation and Refund Policy Terms and Conditions.

We require a deposit to secure all bookings for tattoo services and/or for all tattoo designs drawn by the artist, which is then deducted from the total price of your tattoo upon completion. Deposit amount is dependent on tattoo size.

Please be certain when putting down a deposit as there are no refunds for deposits.

For bookings for tattoo services of 2 hours or less we require a minimum time of 48 hours notice prior to cancelling and rescheduling your appointment otherwise your deposit will be forfeited.

For bookings for tattoo services greater than 2 hours we require a minimum of 7 days notice prior to cancelling and rescheduling your appointment otherwise your deposit will be forfeited.

Refunds of deposits will only ever be given in accordance with State and Federal legal policies and will not be given simply because the client has changed his or her mind.

The deposit policy is a payment for the artist for the time spent drawing your artwork and is a services rendered remittance and therefore is non refundable.

The “Front of House” at Tora Sumi  features an ever-changing Exhibition Space. Here you can sit on the custom made Koskela Quadrant Ottomans and peruse the artists porfolios on our orange iPads. Talk to your artist about your concepts, look at our library of beautiful coffee table books or buy a gift for a friend from our eclectic retail display.
