History

Underground Hair is Adelaide’s longest running salon. In 1963 Tony Caruso left Sicily bound for Australia where he quickly established himself as Adelaide’s number 1 barber at Scott’s Barber Shop in Rundle Street (now Rundle Mall) In 1967 Tony opened his own hair salon, the first men’s shop to

Have wash basins & branch away from ‘just the barber shop mentality’ Tony also styled hair which was something no one else did back then for men.

Business flourished from 3 chairs to 12 with personalised service & old fashioned hard work. In 1980 he switched to Ladies, relocated further down the Mall to Underground’s current site at 95 Rundle Mall downstairs opposite the iconic silver balls.

Davide, his son joined him in 1986. After his apprenticeship Davide made his own mark in Adelaide and now runs the salon the old traditional way

“Without a doubt the worst haircut I have had in years. My hair was cut by a trainee (which I wasn’t told this until during the haircut) who took 45min to do an awful haircut – even cutting me in the process. They then charged me what I’d normally pay for a good haircut. This place should be avoided as there are many better hairdressers who charge less elsewhere”

“seemed very rushed as if they couldn’t go over 20 mins for a hair cut and if i didn’t decline multiple time’s I would of got a no.2 clipper cut. (i think that’s what they do a lot seeing as the boss had to explain to use scissors instead of a no.4 cut).
I chose them over a barber because i didn’t want my hair cut with barber blade but they used a barber blade… and cut me (girlfriend really couldn’t believe they cut me and thought i should of got a discount).

it was an average hair cut at best, for $45 I will not be going back.
(not complain about price… you pay extra for convenience of being cut in the city)
if you plan on getting it cut longer then no.3 clippers i wouldn’t recommend it.”
