Uttley & Associates was established by Morris Uttley in 1984 and has been operating from the current premises for the past 10 years, specialising in small business accounting, taxation, superannuation and all facets of business advice.

Stuart Bulkeley joined the firm in July 2010, with the long-term view to further develop the existing services provided and enhance the client relationships previously established.

Morris Uttley – CA FCPA NTAA

Morris has operated a public accounting practice in the Burleigh Heads area since 1984. Prior to that date he worked in commerce and was the Group Financial Accountant for a large public company at its Melbourne head office and later moved to the Gold Coast where he was accountant and company secretary for Queensland’s largest cabinetmaker.

Since 1984 he has operated in a number of accounting partnerships. On 1 November 2000 he, along with Julie Dowd and Wendy Uttley, acquired new premises at Suite 5, 12 Classic Way, Burleigh Waters, which was recently extended to accommodate additional staff and facilities.

During this period he has experienced many changes to accounting standards and taxation legislation, including the introduction of fringe benefits tax, self-assessment, capital gains tax and GST.

Morris offers over 40 years of accounting and business experience in both commerce and public practice and specialises in small business accounting, taxation and self-managed superannuation. He has developed an extensive network of specialist professional contacts that assist his clients as and when required.

Stuart Bulkeley – B Com FCPA

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Newcastle and is a Fellow of the Australian Society of CPAs with 20 years’ experience in the profession. This experience includes two years working overseas, with the past 10 years spent on the Gold Coast in a medium-sized accountancy firm supervising a team of accountancy personnel.

Stuart has a professional approach to his clients’ needs and has expertise in business structures, taxation compliance and taxation planning.

Julie Dowd – Commissioner of Declarations

Julie brings to the practice 40 years of practical experience in retail management and public accounting. Prior to moving to the Gold Coast in 1982, she worked for a Chartered Accountant in Broken Hill where she gained extensive knowledge of primary production and small business accounting. After working for accountants in Southport and Labrador she joined Morris in 1996 and now manages a large client list for the practice.

Julie’s particular interest is in fostering relationships with women in business, as she herself has worked most of her married life and has witnessed the huge increase in female participation in the Australian workforce. She enjoys working closely with clients to assist them achieving personal, business and financial goals.

Fiona Knox – CPA BSc Grad Dip Acc

Fiona joined Uttley & Associates in August 2006 after the birth of her first child. She has 10 years’ experience in public accounting on the Gold Coast and is extremely knowledgeable in the preparation of financial statements for all business structures, including superannuation funds.

Fiona’s ability and efficiency is greatly appreciated by our clients and has added to the firm’s ability to meet both client and legislative requirements.

Annette Murphy

Annette contributes to the firm her extensive taxation experience after 12 years with ITP. In the final two years of this period she was elevated to the position of Office Manager for the Gold Coast region.

Annette has been with Uttley & Associates for over six years and is our resident tax return software expert. She prepares most of the firm’s individual Income Tax Returns and small business quarterly BAS/IAS returns. Annette is also an excellent bookkeeper and is responsible for the preparation of many of the firm’s small business financial statements.

Wendy Uttley – Practice administrator

Wendy is responsible for the efficient operation of our office. Her extensive experience in office and business management has prepared her for this role, which then enables our above-mentioned team of professionals to concentrate solely on working with our clients.

Wendy is your first point of contact with our firm, either in person or by telephone, and expeditiously she can advise you of our services, arrange appointments or direct you to the relevant staff member that can assist you with your requirements.

As well, her duties include electronic lodgement, receipts and payments, debt management and internal accounting.

You will find Wendy friendly, patient and always ready to assist you with any enquiry.
